We had intended this video and campaign to release LAST YEAR, but the plans changed when my partner Tyler Spratt was in a head-on collision. Understandably, we had to shift our focus for a bit! Now that he is in a better place with his healing, we are getting back to work and are in need of some start-up funds to be able to get the supplies needed to tour and promote our work. The purpose remains the same! We are seeking seed monies to be able to really get my products off the ground! I hope you enjoy the campaign video and write-up, and I look forward to being able to share more with you soon!
Hello, Nadia Vaeh here!
I am writing to share more about who I am and the music career I’ve built over the last several years. Some of you may know me from my beginnings as an artist named Sfynx…so much growth has taken place since those days. If you knew me or my music back then, thank you for walking with me into this new era! For those just getting to know me, I stepped into my purpose; to create conscious pop/rock/punk music with an edge.
A little about how I began this journey: I was always a musical and creative kid. My mom, in particular, really nurtured this side of me, as I definitely inherited her love of words and poetry. I learned how to express myself through poems by watching her write, and we often wrote together. I was drawn to songwriting and began taking my poems to melody in my teens. Music was my poetic mouthpiece, and my mom encouraged my artistic expression.
This prismatic world quickly turned monochromatic, and all my creative passions died, along with my mom’s passing to suicide. I was 17 and quickly found myself living life as if I was headed for the 27 club. I completely lost myself for years and was dissociated from reality. However, the universe had other plans for me! Through a short stint performing in a local Atlanta circus, I found myself in a situation to write songs again, and the healing power of music would slowly bring me back.
My experiences solidified my purpose. The songs, videos, and tour that I seek funding for have been an integral part of my healing journey and are intended to help others through theirs.
What Does Your Support Bring?
Your support will allow me to continue building a platform that uplifts and promotes those traditionally underrepresented in this industry. Historically, artists have been powerless over their careers, and the corporation over the artist model still exists today. As a result, the artist becomes indebted to the labels and essentially functions as a pawn in an unfair game where the artist has a disadvantage.
Thriving as an indie artist in today’s music industry requires considerable funding from other sources. A record deal is not a favorable option for a hard-working, disciplined independent artist. With a label, I would be sacrificing the ownership and creativity of my vision. By building my own career, I maintain the right to choose who I work with, make the music I feel compelled to write, and be my own boss.
Achievements I Have Earned on My Own:
- Secured a sync licensing deal with Fulton Street Music Group, NYC - a sync licensing company for advertisements
- Landed an international advertising campaign placement with custom work for the World Woman Hour project
- Won a Vox-Pop Independent Music Award for Best Holiday Song for a Christmas original, “Holidazed & Confused,” in 2020
- Won multiple “Best Music Video” video awards for “Never Leave the Basement” in international film festivals and is in the running for many more
- Continued to consistently build a following from 2019 to the present through live performances, trade shows, and online concerts throughout the U.K. and the U.S.
- Kept moving forward through times of international distress and amassed a significant body of work (over 27 songs), many of which are included in the current lineup for the album.
- Maintained a steady live in-person booking schedule up through March 2020, averaging 3-4 shows per month without the help of management or a booking agent
- Consistently created content to invite listeners and new fans along on the journey in an exciting and engaging way.
- Was selected to be a voting member of the Recording Academy and had two songs up for consideration: “Never Leave Basement” for Best Rock Song and a song called “Front Row” written for PBS documentary “The Dancing Man of LA” for Best Song Written for Visual Media.
