PURPOSE OF THE SHOW:
Narcissists of New York City was created to highlight generational narcissism, narcissism affects, and narcissistic types in a comedic setting to make use of comedy’s power to educate, entertain, and heal.
For Sheikh, the Creator of the series, it was also important that a Bengali-American perspective be highlighted through one of the central characters (Sahir), owing to the extreme lack of Bengali-American representation in our current entertainment industry.
Narcissists of New York City has already finished it’s production phase, and is in the midst of Post-Production, with 75% of funding having been secured and utilized, and requires funding for Film aggregation, E&O insurance, Press coverage, and bringing on-board Narcissist-Recovery experts to provide their unique insight to each episode, in an ambitious attempt to spread the message on Narcissistic abuse and recovery.
The Series is to be split into two segments, with Part 1 being released in December 2022, and Part 2 being released in March 2023.
With your help, the show will be made ready for streaming networks to encourage other Bengali-
Americans and people of South-Asian descent to pursue a career in Arts and Entertainment, while promoting the fight against narcissism, the NNYC way, having episode breakdowns available to the general public on free streaming platforms.
SUMMARY:
NARCISSISTS OF NEW YORK CITY is a 12-episode sitcom, playing along the lines of ‘The
Big Bang Theory’, ‘How I Met Your Mother’, ‘Friends’, ‘New Girl’, and ‘Fresh Off The Boat’.
4 Narcissists with distinct Narcissistic traits, share an apartment in New York City, each set on
seeking recognition to fulfill their elusive self-worth.
The Narcissists act as each other’s eyes unknowingly, highlighting each other’s delusions and
flaws, while comically failing to see their own. They rarely get along at first, set on their peculiar
obsessions and antics, but as the episodes progress, they get increasingly dependent on each
other in a symbiotic relationship, utterly oblivious of that dynamic. Each let down their defense
mechanisms at various points in the series as they are presented with their childhood emotional
triggers, and each are forced to reconcile with segments of their essence which they had previously abandoned.
We see the roommates’ hilarious interactions with other contrasting characters throughout the
season, with some of the characters being substantially more narcissistic than the Leads, and
others being profoundly more self-aligned.
Narcissists of different types and levels are brought together in this world to create a torrent of
humor and heart-warming plot-lines, with a super-charged story arc that carries forward onto the next season.
MAIN CHARACTERS:
SAHIR:
Mr. Charmer. Lover of women which is reciprocated. An aspiring actor who works as a
personal trainer. Afraid of commitment.
We see Sahir’s many exploits with women, from menage a trois to werewolf sex fantasies, as he
pursues fame as an actor. As the season progresses, he increasingly relates to the shared mishaps of his roommate Dante and starts an actual brotherly bond, a feat which he deemed impossible ever since his trust in men went out when his father abandoned his family.
ARIA:
Highly emotional at times, highly withdrawn at times. Close to Sahir. Aspiring
Broadway actress who works as a stripper. Grew up at an orphanage. Can be highly seductive.
Can be highly dismissive.
We see Aria’s rants throughout the season as she humorously fails to empathize with others. She pursues her dream of being on Broadway while being bogged down as a stripper. Aria sees no reason to empathize until she meets Gaia, whose endearing nature brings out in her the role of an elderly sister- a first for someone who hasn’t known any family.
GAIA:
The Savior. Thinks of herself as Mother Teresa. Sweet. Hypes people up naturally.
People-pleaser. Works as a waitress. Pansexual.
Gaia is an embodiment of a lost puppy in human form. Timid as she is, she sees herself as the
savior of the human race. Deprived of validation/credit from an emotionally unavailable, high-
achieving father, she finds self-acceptance in the protection and solace Aria unconsciously
engulfs her in.
DANTE:
Mr. Smarty Pants. Highly sarcastic. Mamas boy. Lives on parents' money. Aspiring
entrepreneur and inventor.
The hopeless Geek who tries and fails at securing love and at giving life to his beloved
inventions. Dante uses sarcasm as a defense mechanism as he slides away from life’s offerings.
He stands for no cause until Sahir provokes him to take one.
