Nancy Evans Dance Theatre (NEDT) is a collection of dance artists telling stories through movement under the artistic direction of Nancy Evans Doede. Our work exposes us—dancers and audience members—as imperfect, vulnerable, sometimes ludicrous… humans. Sweet Sorrow, an evening-length collaboration with guest choreographer and novelist Leigh Purtill, is the next step in our evolution as creators and performers.
NEDT is raising funds to create the first phase of Sweet Sorrow. Using the language of dance we explore what becomes of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet after their deaths. It is a dramatic contemporary ballet that explores the beauty of undying love in stark contrast to the gruesome embodiment of jealousy, revenge, and power.
This new work is a media cross-over that blends story, theatre, improv, visual arts, design, and dance. NEDT is thrilled to be working with choreographer Leigh Purtill (original story & concept) and costume designer Jordan Waterman.
NEDT aims to produce Act One of Sweet Sorrow in May of 2015 (May 29, 30 at 8PM & 31 at 4PM), with an evening length debut in the Fall of 2016.

Risks & Challenges
Like all creative endeavors this project comes with its own risks. If we are unable to raise all of the funds needed we will have to scale back on production. Costumes will be more basic and some set elements may eliminated. We are a very resourceful bunch though and are all deeply committed to this project. We will make it work!
