A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on April 25, 2015, the worst natural disaster in Nepal for 80 years. The death toll has risen to 5,800 according to CNN and is expected to rise further in the coming days. Ancient temples in the capital city, Kathmandu have collapsed and historical monuments have been reduced to piles of rubble. Nepal is struggling to recover from the devastation caused by this disaster. In Kathmandu, people have been forced to abandon their homes and live in open fields. In the villages of Nepal, the situation is even more dire as the villages are remote and inaccessible. There is an immediate need for basic supplies like food, water, shelter and medicine. There is also a real danger of disease outbreaks.
Both the Nepalese government and the international community are leading the rescue efforts in the aftermath of this tragedy. We, the Nepali Students' Association at Washington State University, are joining hands to contribute to the rescue efforts in Nepal. We are reaching out to you for your help and support. Your donations could make a big difference in the lives of millions of affected Nepalese people.
We will direct your donations to the victims through Mercy Corps, International Medical Corps and Save the Children who are all working on the ground in Nepal to help the victims.
