Neptune Cosmic Electric
Or: How The General Zapped An Angel To Be At Her Command
My film follows Casey Cresswood, a reclusive young woman who continues to struggle with depression and grief after losing her mother, a famed astronaut, during a space expedition gone wrong a decade prior. After waking up from a horrific nightmare, she begins experiencing strange electrical sensations in her brain: erratic headaches, high-pitched noises, telekinetic occurrences, and frequent flashbacks of her childhood begin to plague her daily life all while a comet is about to pass by Earth.
If I could describe the film on an elemental level, I would say Neptune Cosmic Electric is celestial, icy, hazy, mysterious, dusky, and haunting. Themes of the film include isolation, nostalgia, disassociation, and resentment; it also covers a wide range of genres/subgenres: Family drama, surrealism, extraterrestrial sci-fi, psychological drama/thriller, and even body horror!
About Me
My name is Adam D. Seal, and I am a New Orleans-based filmmaker, NOCCA Alumni, and LOYOLA Digital Filmmaking senior who is currently working on his capstone film for a BFA. My specialty is working in the Production Sound department, but above all else, I want to be a Writer/Director. Over the past four years, I've had the opportunity to work on feature films such as Open (2023) and Bone Face (TBD) as a Boom Operator, and I couldn't be more thankful for the incredible experience and wisdom that I've gained along the way! Ever since I was a child, I have always been passionate about movies and filmmaking, and this project will not only be a huge turning point in my career but also in my life. Upon completion, I intend to submit this to festivals across the country and, perhaps, even overseas!
Overall Look
Neptune Cosmic Electric is a visually striking film, to say the least. It primarily utilizes dark blues, lime greens, and hot pinks to reflect Casey's feelings and to convey different tones throughout the film. Notable films that inspire me are Melancholia (2011), Videodrome (1983), Contact (1997), and Oppenheimer (2023). I've attached three separate lookbooks below based on different locations in the film.

Neat Practical Effects!
One of the main components of creating Neptune Cosmic Electric is using practical effects to create dazzling, trippy, and cosmic visuals! In order to do so, we will be doing a handful of fun science experiments to achieve these neat effects: using an old ELMO projector and colorful oils to recreate liquid light shows, utilizing empty fish tanks to play around with particles made out of glitter and pigment powder, and last but certainly not least, making comets with dry ice!
