Hello!

We are reaching out to our fellow Ole alums to ask for your help for a current St. Olaf student who was a victim of a crime on campus.  This is a good friend of our child, also a current Ole.

About a week ago an international student had their backpack stolen from outside the caf.  Their MacBook Air was smashed, put back in the pack and the whole thing was thrown up onto a Larson awning where it was found by public safety.   The student doesn’t, currently, have the means to replace the computer.  So, we will and we invite you to join us!

We have no proof that the international student was specifically targeted or that the incident has anything to do with their race, ethnicity or religion.  Whether this was a random act of meanness or not, this is not who we are as a St. Olaf community. Considering the current political and social climate we completely understand why, as a Muslim, they feel targeted and hurt.  The whole thing makes us angry and very sad.

We are asking for your help to replace the computer and to show the student support from the St. Olaf community.  There is great power in many small donations.   Would you please donate and spread the word to your Ole friends?

We will close the link when the goal has been achieved.  Any small amount raised in excess of the cost of a replacement laptop will be donated to the Center for Multicultural and International Engagement at St. Olaf "which provides resources and co-curricular support for multicultural students, and works with and within the community to engage, educate, and enrich campus life for all students”.  http://wp.stolaf.edu/cmie/

The site defaults to $50 - you can change the amount.

Thank you!

Jenny Emery-Bock (’91) and Tom Bock (’90)
