My name is Serena Rascon Arredondo Gomez. My name comes from my biological mother and father as well as my adoptive parents.
I am 24 years old and am currently living in my home town, Espanola, New Mexico.
I am a professional dancer, seeking to expand my knowledge, my experience, my vocabulary and my being.
I started dancing at the age of three and danced on solid until I was about 18 years old. In that year, while in San Francisco, I contemplated my commitment to dance and decided to take a break. After about a year, I realized that dance was in my DNA and I had to start training again.
Throughout the years to come, my passion was reignited and I eventually moved back to New Mexico where I performed with a touring company called Dancing Earth and a local company called Moving People Dance Theater.
I also worked as a dance instructor with Moving Arts Espanola, a visiting artist with the public school district, and a mentor with both organizations.
Through this experience, I gained irreplaceable knowledge which I feel so grateful for.
Now, I am setting my sights to New York. I am looking not only at the present but to the future. Although I want to go now, I will want to come back again later and continue to pass on my knowledge and passion for the art of dance in my home community.
I need your help to go and get settled in New York. I have never been there before so this will be an amazing and challenging experience.
The money that you donate will go to dance classes, transportation, housing, and food.
A single dance class in New York can cost up to $17 dollars. I am planning on taking 2-3 classes a day, 5-6 days a week. My ultimate goal with this self deligated training program, is to get into a reputable dance company which will lend to my future goal of becoming a choreographer and director of my own dance company.
This cost in itself is roughly $1,000 a month.
I have located an apartment in Brooklyn and may be able to rent this space. Rent would be roughly $500.00 a month. If this place did not work, I would look for something else in this range.
These are estimations of just a couple of my costs.
I do not anticipate getting a job very soon after I arrive, though I am doing my research and reaching out even now.

I have contemplated leaving with nothing but the scant amount of money that I have in my pockets but I realize it will be more difficult than I am prepared for if I really want to train seriously.
