Issue #1 of NINA & ARIEL - a post-apocalyptic sci-fi tale, and first creator-owned project by fan favorite artist ED BENES: Everything you already saw with some additional news!

This is a passion project over 14 years in the making! First conceived back in 2004 during his work on Birds of Prey, NINA AND ARIEL is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi series inspired by my love of Heavy Metal Magazine and similar European comics of the time, and also the work of Frank Frazetta (Fire & Ice, etc).  For years, Nina & Ariel has had to take a back seat to my regular professional deadlines - and now, I'm has finally dedicated myself to giving these characters the attention that they deserve!

Me and my team of artists need help to get this gorgeous #1-issue a post-apocalyptic sci-fi tale get some extra traction!

The Indiegogo campaign is going to help us cover all print costs, and will also allow us to pay the creators, and to get issue 2 into production as soon as possible!  With your help, this will only be the beginning for Nina & Ariel!

Nina & Ariel was successfully funded via Kickstarter earlier this year. We believe that # 1 edition can still offer much more than it has been offered. We started a new campaign with extra material and news that we would like to share with you. This new campaign will be our "golden goose" and now we have 100% autonomy throughout the process. We all know practice makes perfect so our intention is to create a strong project and make you happy to continue with us on the journey to launch Nina & Ariel # 2. SPOILER ALERT: It's almost ready for launch!

NINA & ARIEL: BEHIND THE BACKGROUND

In this scenario we find our heroines:

Nina – 19-year-old girl who grew up in a banker out of war and not knowing what the world was becoming. She was tutored by a man with oriental origin who is paraplegic and has a past that will converge with the story of the young girl.

Ariel – 27’s former military woman trained to survive to most diverse conditions and fought in the Great War. Her platoon was responsible for great victories. She was kicked out from the army and after that she was sentenced to live in the remnants of the postwar world. She carries a katana as a faithful companion who is a witness to what Ariel was before the army and the war.

WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND?

The negligence of mans with the natural resources offered by the planet had serious consequences for the future. A world war for territories that still had resources was established; while the war was being fought between the soldiers the scientists found out an escape route thus emerging the NEW EDEN. It’s become a hope for humanity the New Eden was real for all those who were of really importance to the continuation of the species or had enough possessions to pay for this new world, leaving behind the scum of humanity and living on a destroyed planet by war and almost without resources for survival.

In this first edition our heroines are presented and we’ill follow the exact moment they meet each other and start their adventures  in this chaotic scenario where we can feel the climate of violence and tension.

THE TEAM

ED BENES (writer, artist) is a well-known artist in the comic book market that drew up titles such as Gen¹³, Birds of Prey, Supergirl and Superman . In 2006 Ed was commissioned to illustrate writer Brad Meltzer's script for the Justice League, a title Ed drew up until 2009. He later contributed to Batman and Birds of Prey , Steel, and countless others. Ed is the holder of the title of brazilian with the largest number of pages published by DC Comics. To this day he continues to work with DC as well as eventual cover work for Dynamite, Zenescope, etc. He also recently made a 100-page graphic novel for Legendary. Cataloging everything Ed Benes has ever done in his career to this date is almost impossible. Now Ed is giving up some work with the US market to devote himself to NINA & ARIEL an authorial project that comes to life and strength right here and right now!

DINEI RIBEIRO (colorist) – He has graduated in Social Communication from Universidade Pontifícia Católica de Minas and worked with various advertising agencies until starting his own studio in 2008. Since then, he has worked with several clients producing illustrations and he is always coloring comics for publishers like Dynamite, Legendary and Dark Horse in several titles like Vampirella, Lone Ranger, Warlord of Mars, Axiom. Back to 2015 Dinei joined forces with longtime friend and teacher Ed Benes to work for DC Comics on franchises, including iconic Justice League characters, Suicide Squad, Green Lantern, Superman, etc. She is currently working in Hal Jordan colors and has done extensive work for DC Comics, most recently on New Challengers, Deathstroke, Teen Titans, and Green Lanterns.

DIEGO BERNARD - Hailing from Brazil, Diego Bernard is one of the hottest young talents in comics!  He launched his work on the market early and by being mentored by Ed Benes and was one of the first designers to land at Ed Benes Studio. Diego first made his mark with an 18-issue run on Top Cow's flagship title Witchblade, and quickly followed that up with three years at Valiant Comics, where he helped shape such popular core characters as X-O Manowar and Ninjak, among others!  Shortly thereafter, Diego worked on a few issues of X-Men: Gold prior to assuming his current role as the regular artist on Lady Death!

FRED BENES – He has made his career as an amazing pin up comic artist and holds records of sales for nothing less than years! Fred Benes is yet another prodigy of the Benes family and anyone who saw his work knows the uniqueness of his art. He has worked as an art finalist on titles such as Witchblade, Disciples A.D., and Neanderthal Rising, and with his brother Ed Benes produced incredible arts. Just google: Fred Benes!

VINICIUS TOWSEND - Emerges as a new promise for the colorist market. Born in Rio de Janeiro and graduated in Fine Arts from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. He works as a colorist for 8 years now and has participating in publications such as IDW, Dynamite, among others. Currently participates as a freelancer in publications in the national and international independent market.

HUMBERT CÉDRIC - live in France and started digital coloring 10 year ago. His real job is juggler he work on photoshop and in a Wacom cintiq tablet doing amazing colors in his free time.

JORGE VIEIRA (letters) - has worked on several creator-owned project, in addition to his role as manager of the Ed Benes Studio through more than a decade. In 2014 he began to study the structure and composition for comic’s letters and soon came the works. Since then he continues to put letters on comic pages. He has done various work for the US market and he is now interested in the national market. Participated in some projects such as Força BR, Gaspar Vianna - O legado de um Heroi, some tittle from Argo Comics like Lauren Order, Monster Island, etc.
