Our Story

  • The Boston Marathon Bombings last year devastated people across the country and left hundreds injured including 15+ people who lost limbs. The road back from severe lower limb trauma can be long, arduous and expensive. To help those injured in the Boston Marathon Bombings, Hugh Herr and Mary Kelly Persyn have partnered with No Barriers USA to launch No Barriers Boston. The funds collected will go to fitting and providing advanced prosthetic limbs, allowing them to regain a fully active lifestyle.
  • Together with your support, we can have a monumental impact on the lives of the Boston bombing survivors and support them on their road to recovery. The fund will provide these survivors with prosthetic limbs designed for athletic activities so that they can run, bike, swim and even dance again.

What We Need & What You Get

  • The funds collected will go to fitting and providing prosthetic limbs for survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing who have lost limbs. The money raised will specifically support limbs for athletic use, which are more expensive than a standard prosthetic and are often not covered by insurance. These advanced prosthetics will give survivors of the Boston Bombing a chance to return to a full and active lifestyle.
  • To show our appreciation for your amazing support, we are offering a number of perks! In addition to the perks listed, we will be adding more in the next week!

The Impact

  • The Boston Marathon Bombings last year left many people with significant injuries and, in many cases, missing lower limbs. The horror of waking up with a different body as a result of a random act of terror should not be understated. Yet thanks to recent advances in prosthetic and rehabilitation technology by industry leaders like Hugh Herr and his team at the MIT Media Lab, many of those who have suffered these devastating injuries have the hope of returning to a full and normal life.

  • The amputee survivors in the Boston Marathon bombings are in the midst of a long road to recovery. With your support, we can help make a dramatic difference in their lives. People recovering from the trauma of the Boston Marathon bombings face many challenges. But in prevailing over adversity, they will also represent the best of the human spirit.
  • Hugh Herr is changing the way we see disability and turning what can be a tragedy in many people's lives into a triumph. He is offering hope and an unprecedented quality of life to amputees from the Boston Marathon Bombing.
