I am Jered Meeks, 24 years old, a military policeman, / paratrooper from Canton, Mississippi. (Army Vet)
I have always enjoyed serving my town growing up as a child, and now I serve my country, but, in particular, this project marries three of my interests: serving people, changing lives, and making leaders. I believe that good leadership is paramount in today’s society.
No Limits
My story began on August 2, 2002 at the age of 11, it was a summer day, and school was starting in a week or so. However, that day would forever change my life. It was the day that I was involved in a car accident in a town nearby. The doctors told my parents that there was no hope, and if I did pull through, I would not be able to function properly. However, after being in ICU for a while, I made it! I was in so much pain, but I made it, the doctors told my parents that I would not be able to do any of the ordinary things that little boys did i.e. climb trees, play sports, run, etc. After nine weeks of lying up in bed and practicing standing up straight, I made a full recovery. Well, let us fast forward… since then, I have gone to Europe and volunteered on humanitarian projects. I joined the military like they said I would never be able to do, and I deployed overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. What the doctors did was that they limited me. The doctors limited the potential that my body was able to do; I was placed in a limited state.
Our Goal and Your Impact
There are children and adults in my town that have been told that they would never be able to achieve anything in life. They have been placed in a limited state of mind. The No Limits Challenge Course will put teens and adults to the challenge. It will be designed to test the mind, body, and soul. When they complete an obstacle, it will instill pride and give them the determination to drive on.
Some students in my town have nothing to do but either do drugs or be violent. They have no place “fun” to go. There are no attractions here for teens; sure, a small carnival comes to town three times a year but that's it. No art theaters, bowling alleys, skating rinks, nothing but drugs and violence. The only thing that this town has is a city pool and local Boys and Girls Club. That is why is need your support to make this happen. Not only will this give the teens and young adult a place to go but it will also but a place for physical fitness.
