"Norwood: Where Legends Were Born"
Thanks for checking out my project! My name is Drew and I've been professionally directing commercials, corporate videos and music videos for the past 10 years. Award winning broadcast spots as well as top-rated music videos on MTV are among my career highlights to date. My interest in documentaries and my love of automobiles has led me to my next project, a feature film documenting the origin of two of the world's most famous muscle cars, the Chevrolet Camaro and the Pontiac Trans Am.
My interest in this project started about 25 years ago as a fun topic of conversation with my Dad, who owned two 1969 Camaros. We simply wanted to find out some information about the factory where his cars were built. I grew up in Tennessee, a long away from the factory that assembled the Camaro, but in a twist of fate, I now live in Cincinnati, right down the road from where the original General Motors site was located in Norwood, Ohio.
A chance discovery of a 2013 muscle car magazine announcing a 25 year reunion for former GM Norwood plant employees restored my interest in the subject and led me to meet several notable people associated with the plant where these incredible cars were produced.
Over the past 4 years since discovering that magazine article, I've been fortunate enough to gather over 25 interviews with former plant employees, Corey Lawson - the owner of the very first Camaro ever produced, and Phil Borris - owner of the very last Camaro produced at Norwood, and author of the book "Echoes of Norwood" which has become THE historical record for Norwood Assembly.
What started as a fun nostalgic project has turned into hundreds of hours of research and information gathering that will provide the framework for an exciting look at the beginnings of one of most iconic car platforms of all time, the General Motors F Body. Through interviews with those that were there at the plant in it's heyday, as well as never-before-seen photo and video, we examine the topics of workers rights vs. shareholder profits during one of the most dynamic times for automobile manufacturing ever to exist. This film features never before seen images and video from inside the Norwood plant and of the notorious 1972 strike - the longest industrialized walk-out up to that point in US history. It also includes in-depth perspectives from former Norwood employees and exclusive interviews from those working inside the walls of today’s General Motors. Also included is comprehensive coverage of the rarely seen and fully restored serial number #1 1967 Camaro, as well as the rescue and restoration of the last car that Norwood ever produced. The story of “Norwood: Where Legends Were Born” is as intriguing as the exciting cars that Norwood Assembly produced.
Your commitment to reserve your very own special edition copy of this film now, along with your pledge to share this project with others is paramount in helping us complete what we've stared.
Here's What We Need & What You Get for Your Support
I need YOUR help to finish what we’ve started. This film began as a father son-project to simply find out some information about where my Dad’s 1969 Camaro was built. Over the past 3 years it has turned into hundreds of hours of research. We’ve interviewed over 25 former Norwood employees, worked with automotive historians and car collectors all over the world, and travelled thousands of miles in search of what it really was like inside this unique and seldom photographed plant from those that actually worked there. We’ve shouldered as much of the cost as we can to research and conduct the interviews, but we need your support to make it to the finish line. If you pledge your support now, through our IndieGoGo page, you’ll be rewarded with exclusive content you can only get by pledging to the project early.
Anything helps, but the best option to support this film, in my opinion, is to pick a contribution that get’s you a special edition copy of this film as soon as it's finished. This pre-sale copy, only available if you contribute early through IndieGoGo, will feature exclusive content that won’t be on the regular mainstream release once the film is completed next year. On the special edition version of this film, we’ll have hours of additional content and long-form interviews only available if you buy early.
We're also creating a special limited edition, numbered and signed, poster print commemorating this special automotive plant. This poster will be designed by automotive designer Gary Ragle. Gary has designed numerous concept cars that have sat on the Detroit Auto Show floor, as well as hot rods for celebrities all across the world. The most special part of this poster, however, will be the printed signature panel below Gary’s design containing the signatures of men and women that worked at Norwood that we were fortunate enough to speak with for this documentary. If you collect automotive memorabilia, this poster will be a must have.
If you want it all, we’re also putting together bundles where you get the special edition film, the limited run poster, and a lot more. If you have a special car that you want to appear in this film, we’ve got a contribution level that can make that happen. And if you want to join us in-person for the premiere screening in 2018 followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, or just be the first to stream it at home, we’ve got giving levels for that too. Our IndieGoGo campaign will only be available for a limited time, and all of the perks are only available in limited quantities, so please support today and secure your exclusive Norwood Legends perks before we’re out.
Our goal is to raise $115,000. Your sponsorship dollars will go toward editing, color and sound finishing, licensing of historical photos and video, securing music rights for the film, as well as marketing expenses to get the film out there and available for eventual in-store and streaming purchase.
If we fall short of the $115,000 goal, we simply wont have enough gas in the tank, so to speak, to cover the costs of bringing you the full story of Norwood Assembly and how the Camaro and Trans Am began.
We need you to reserve your copy now, or even just give a few bucks toward the cause.
Other Ways You Can Help
Please help us share this with folks that love cars, or are simply interested in the complexities of the modern global auto industry.
We can also use your help to get the word out on social media! Share this page and the Norwood Legends website with everyone you know!
I can't thank you enough for your support. We need it. And if we get enough supporters, we can finish this film and get it out to the masses. Your sponsorship dollars will go toward editing, color and sound finishing, licensing of historical photos and video, and securing music rights for the film. We’ve shouldered as much of the cost as we can to research and conduct the interviews, but we need your support to make it to the finish line. Please pass this video to anyone you think might be interested in this amazing story and check out our website for the documentary at NorwoodLegends.com. There you can sign up for updates on the film, and most importantly, you can link to our IndieGoGo page and show your support by reserving your copy early! We need to raise the full amount of our goal to stay on track to finish the film by early 2018. Help us by contributing and sharing our project with anyone you think would be interested.
Thanks again!
