Short Summary
We are Heidi, Daniel, Billy, Joe, Max, and Tom. We are in our graduating year at film school at The Cass School of Art, Architecture and Design in London E1.
Together, we are Last Place Pictures, a production collective formed in our second year of university. Our first narrative short, The Landlady (2016), was an official selection at the Short to the Point Festival and nominated at The Moving Pictures Festival in Belgium.
Our next short film, Oates, written and directed by Heidi O'Loughlin, is the first of three graduation projects we need to undertake this year. The film will be shot both in London and on location in the south of Poland.
Our campaign is designed to help us cover the additional costs incurred by filming in Poland. We believe the additional funding will help us create a film that's truly spectacular. Our films are not just about being university projects. As with our first film, we dedicate a lot of time and money into the production, as well as entering our films into a range of festivals in order to give it a life beyond post-production.
Your contributions will go primarily towards costs of accommodation and shooting on location in Poland. Our own personal contributions will cover everything else including our own flights, actors' flights, costumes, props, lighting and sound equipment, cameras, monitors, catering, transport.
We are lucky enough to work with a range of incredibly talented actors who contribute to our films in kind. We are happy to announce that our lead for Oates is the wonderful Amy Dunn (Dickensian, Tracey Ullman's Show, Holby City).
What We Need & What You Get
We are going to be shooting on location for seven days near Zakopane in the south of Poland. We chose Poland as a reasonably cheaper alternative to other popular ski areas in Europe, and have taken advantage of cheap airfares. We need to raise £2100 to cover the rental costs of a lodge, which will not only serve as a location, but will accommodate the Last Place crew, actors and extras. Any remaining funds will go towards transportation from Krakow to Zakopane, plus the transportation of equipment.
We have invented a range of perks to hopefully suit everyone's budget. Our £1 perk is especially designed so that almost anyone can help us make a huge difference to our project! However, if you're feeling slightly more generous, our other perks contain lots of great prizes including: handwritten postcards from us in Poland, digital downloads of our films, a unique production still, a limited edition DVD and more!
The Impact
Basically, you will not only help foster creative arts, which, let's be honest, needs all the financial help it can get right now, but you'll be helping poor students who, on top of their course costs, are expected to fund the majority of their own film projects.
Risks & Challenges
- Shooting on location, in winter, is of course vital to the film but comes with many complications. Our aim is to prepare for all types of scenarios, including bad weather.
- Time. Shooting overseas means we are very limited to the time we have. We will review and make rough cuts of footage whilst in Poland, and over compensate with our shooting schedule, allowing for time for any necessary pick ups.
