What does the Octopus tail stand for?

The design concept of the Octopus Tail has been inspired by the octopus and its arms' absorptive power. The strong point of this product is the double sided construction of the sucker cups that allows the user to attach it to various objects such as mobile phones, tablets, memo pads etc. and then remove them without difficulty. The users can easily cut it into smaller pieces with scissors and then use it according to their needs. It's an innovative product that presents the animal that cannot be omitted when talking about Korea.

Design Background

We are surrounded by countless products. The digitization is progressing, the number of smartphone users increasing. As the market is expanding there are more and more new accessories being developed. However, most of these products can only be used in one way, whereas our goal was to create an accessory that could be easily and comfortably used in various everyday life situations. 

Design Goal

- The functionality should be included even in the smallest part of the future product

- It has to take into consideration the user’s environment

- The designed product should be fun

- The future product has to be free from deformation

- The product has to be easily adaptable to the changing environment

Purpose of use

Our Octopus Tail consists of 5 double sided sucker cups and can be easily cut into pieces and adjusted according to the size and shape of the object you want to use it with. DIY (Do It Yourself) option allows the product to successfully deal with place and space restraints and use it variously maximizing its usability.

Various usage of the Octopus Tail

The Octopus Tail can be easily adjusted to the size and shape of the object you want to use it with. The users can decide on how to attach it to their mobile phones or other objects and create different interesting shapes just like the ones in the pictures. It’s very easy to cut it into smaller pieces and use according to your needs. DIY (Do It Yourself) option allows the product to successfully deal with place and space restraints and use it variously maximizing its usability.

Our Octopus Tail  can withstand the weight of a 3~4kg dumbbell.

User Environment

Octopus Tail can be used in a car, on train, on bus, on plane, in the office, study room, make up room, library, kitchen, toilet/bathroom, nail shop, gym, yoga center, cafe, school, etc. and many other places. It can be very useful especially in some narrow, limited spaces.

  The Octopus Tail can serve as a stand in your car. Attach the product to your phone and then to the windshield. Turn on navigation. Attach the phone horizontally.

The Octopus Head serves as a great Octopus Tail holder and guarantees good angle, vision and convenient use of navigation when driving. It does not only secures your phone but is helpful when you need to charge it. 

In a car when watching movies

When driving together with your family or friends, it’s easy for your passengers to attach the phone to the dashboard and watch a movie or listen to music.

When traveling with your family or friends you can easily use the tail as a holder for your phone and listen to your favorite music conveniently on the back seat. 

As earphone winder

Octopus Tail can turn out to be very useful during flight. Simply attach it to the window pane next to you or use it as a stand.

DESIGN POINTS OF SUCKER CUPS

1. ANY PLACE: as it uses negative fluid pressure of air, the double sided Octopus Tail does not require any glue or tape to be attached and therefore, doesn't leave any stains.

2. EASY TO USE: possibility to change the actual shape and size of the product in order to use it variously.

3. VARIOUS USAGE: you can easily cut the product into pieces with scissors and use it according to your needs as a stand, holder, earphone winder, etc.

4. INTERESTING: the easiness of carrying it around and using in various places makes the usage comfortable and fun. As the shape clearly refers to an octopus arm, the main point and function of this product are easily understandable.

5. UNIQUE: just like in the three musketeers famous motto, the Octopus Tail consisting of 5 independent sucker cups owes its adhesion strength to their mutual cooperation.

MATERIAL?

TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) exposed to high temperature, it is melted first during the production process. Even though the material is soft, it's very durable and can last for long time.

In order to fully enjoy the product please refer to the below principles:

1. When used as a stand/holder for navigation and put close to the heater it may        fall  off if used for a long time. Please press the sucker cup from time to time     when in use.

2. The product should be used with smartphone that is used into a protective case.

3. The Octopus Tail works well with the poly type materials.

4. Before using the product please check if it's well attached and confirm the
adhesion.

5. DIY (Do It Yourself) option - it's easy to cut the Octopus Tail to pieces and use 
according to your needs.

Anyone can come up with a beautiful design that will please other people's eyes. We want to create something more than just designs soon to be forgotten, designs that will most likely vaporize after some short time. We'd like to be responsible for creating products that not only please one's eyes, but also bring back good memories, stay deep in one's heart and despite the passing time bring smile to one's face.

How will we use crown funding?

The funds that we will hopefully receive from all those interested in our project will help us to improve the quality of our product, cover some of the production costs and guarantee that all the octopus tails you purchase will be able to reach you safely. The funds will also be an undeniable help and serve as a great encouragement in creating our new designs and bringing to life our new ideas and visions.

4. Possible change of the hardness and shape of the Octopus Tail.
When the Octopus Tail is exposed to low temperatures the hardness will increase making it more difficult to attach the product. In that case all you need is a cup with hot water. You put the tail into the cup and the product is back to its original shape and hardness in no time. Please refer to the below video.

5. Adhesive Octopus Head tape:
The tape allows you to attach the Octopus Head to various surfaces such as concrete, wood, paper and use it together with the Octopus Tail.
Put the tape on the back of the octopus Head and then attach the head to the selected surface. At this point you can easily use it with the Octopus Tail.
6. Adhesive Octopus Head tape glue:
If the head adhesion seems not good enough, try to wash the back of the tape which is covered with semi-permanent glue, and use it again.
