The Director
Raquel is making her directoral debut with her short film, Oh, Dear. She has been writing, re-writing, scraping, and writing this story for the past year and is quite eager to make her vision come alive. Raquel Fogel is originally from Pennsylvania, and now lives in NYC and is starting her senior year in the Visual Effects Department at the School of Visual Arts. Recently, she has been awarded a fellowship with the PNYA and is practicing her skills interning at a visual effects and post production house. Raquel is incredibly passionate about film and filmmaking, and having the opportunity to write and direct her own short has been amazing.
Oh, Dear
Oh, Dear is a short film set in the early 1960's. We follow Sherry, the average everyday suburban housewife. Like many women of her time, she comes across "the problem that has no name." She's bored, unfulfilled, and to top it off, stuck in a horrible marriage. She decides to take matters into her own hands, and fixes her problem with the help of her homemaking knowledge.
There's blood, guts, feminism, and campy music, what more could you ask for?
What We Need
As a student, Raquel not only faces an absurd amount of student loans, but also is incredibly tight on money to begin with. This project may be her thesis film for her senior year of art school, but to her it's so much more than that. She wants the opportunity to make the best short film she possibly can but seems to need more than the twenty in her pocket. Your helpful and amazing donations will go towards...
Props, Costumes, SFX Make Up- This is a period piece and also a gory comedy so things like vintage clothing, period props, and SFX Make Up will need to be purchased to make the film look and feel authentic.
Equipment- Although Raquel has been lucky enough to borrow a camera from a friend, there are a lot of things that will still need to be rented to make this production run smoothly and look great.
Transportation and Board- We're filming in Pennsylvania, so we'll need to get cast, crew, and the equipment down from NYC. In addition, the actors need to sleep somewhere!
FOOD- Ya gotta keep your crew happy and fed or you won't have a crew at all. We've got a small cast and crew of just 9 people plus Raquel's wonderful mother who has volunteered to cook a bit for us, but we've got mouths to feed for 3 days.
If we're unable to reach the goal, the show must go on! However, sacrifices will have to be made. The final product may not be as immaculate as we're all hoping for and we might just have to hitchhike back to NYC.
How to Get Involved and your PERKS
We hope to get everyone excited about the project and eager to see this film! Every donation will help to make this short the best it can be and we're incredibly thankful. Every penny counts.
Perks range from things like awesome tee shirts, an early viewing of the short, and even a couple Associate Producer spots! Yay things and stuff!
We may not be professionals quite yet, but we'd love to make something no one has ever seen or imagined before. We want to make the impossible possible and have this wild vision come to life.
