Why "He wants cyber... but I am going on a date"?

Well people nowadays engage more and more in web communications and less in real time experiences. This is certainly something that needs to be investigated further. I will insist on going on dates, see what works and what doesn't and take it from there.

Did you ever ask yourself why did this date go bad... again?

Do you find it hard to get a date? Or do you prefer just to chat online and not really go out with someone? Are you curious about these interactions?

Do you ever wonder if other guys or girls have similar issues with online dating?

Should you put your real age, or maybe cut or add a few (or many) years?

Should you put that you are curvy? Average? Athletic? Or “a few pounds extra?”

Have you been to a date and the other person was nothing like he or she described and now you just want to scream this to the world?

My name is Selene Naxou. I am a web-based artist specialising in interactive applications, online video and of course dating! I also do graphic design, photography, motion graphics, cook, exercise, read books, go to theatres, love animals... oups! This is not the dating site? Right? :D

I need your help to produce an interactive documentary about online dating and web communications. This is a brand new platform that will serve for educational, but also fun and informational purposes.

What is different about this project? I am the everyday girl. I just express my mind openly (and uncensored!) and post it online in visual and text terms. The stories will be told in a way inspired by documentary filmmakers like Spurlock and Moore. Of course the stories will be given in an abstract way, respecting identities and no images or voices will be uploaded without permission. And that actually will give this project it’s own artistic character.

The concept of interactive documentary has to do with platforms, as well as with the ability to interrupt and allow the user to become a part of the documentary itself. Nowadays, audiences get their content on new devices rather than in theatres, so technology is providing more opportunities for the interface.

I will be initially leading this story, investigating New York’s web society in both online and offline environments. I will experiment on which methods have different results (What pictures to use? What text? How to dress? What should I say etc) and present my experiences and results in street videography/video art, short very funny but at the same time strong and above all, real movies, photography and text.

MY RELATIVE EDUCATION AND WORK
As an artist I studied these topics and produced work, during my Masters degrees and afterwards. This project is part of a PhD proposal.
As internet and dating sites is a relatively new part of our lives, not much information has been gathered for researchers to conduct their studies. As parents grew up without Social Media they are now having trouble guiding their teens through this new era. That’s only one example why this platform - that YOU will help to become a reality - is a very important project.

I have already produced short films on the subject and similar researches. Their results were communicated into online projects that were simply hilarious! One of them was my MA degree dissertation, which was also exhibited in art spaces. The other one was hosted online. They were both a great success in terms that they became addictive in no time and multiplied their followers really fast. The outcome is shocking!

INTERACTIVITY
But THIS will be an interactive project where everybody can participate in this new platform, with their own online experiences. On a next level, text and video stories will use software to interact, at the viewers request and end up creating a great i-doc. More about this consept at https:/hewantscyber.com/interactive

THE ECONOMICS
An interactive documentary on a subject hot like this will certainly be a big success! The only thing is that it needs multi-funding for jobs done on both areas, film making and setting a powerful website with complicated interactivity.

The project is divided in 3 phases. The first will be an interactive documentary about the stories I will film and investigate into. This is what we are funding initially. Then it will be developed to a greater project where, with a different setting of interactions, it will involve stories of other participants. Of course, as part of the educational purpose, a straight forward searchable database of this material will be created. This is actually part of my PhD proposal.

Money raised will be used for equipment (camera, editing suite, microphones, lights…), programming, organising and monitoring the huge amount of content, long term domain names and dedicated server hosting plans, music, applications and much more like fees, taxes etc. If the project is not fully funded, the money will be used to set the base of it and ask further contributions in its own space.
