SYNOPSIS
The film focuses on the Milton family-- Marian, Emerson and Justin, their 9-year-old grandson. There were two other members of the family. Danielle, Justin's mother, who joined the military and was later killed in the line of duty while serving on a tour in Afghanistan and Preston, who committed suicide, just two years after, on the same day his sister died.
After the deaths of their children, Marian and Emerson have not only taken on the responsibility of Danielle's son,
but have become deeply troubled and emotionally detached from the outside world.
The story is told through Marian, on May 19th the anniversary date of Danielle and Preston's death, as they try to conquer the uphill battle of acceptance and find closure with the help of Father Murphy, a family priest. Through an unsuspecting moment, Marian discovers something close and left behind by Danielle that will soon be the start of the comfort she’s been longing for.

SUMMARY
No one knows the turbulence of war and the effect it can have on the families who are left behind.  I'm sure anyone who has ever lost a loved one at war, or even by suicide will relate to this film.

One tragic can lead a family down a dark and twisted road, with a lifetime of pain.  This story is one that has been left untold since the beginning of Americas leech on the war on terrorism. Let me ask you a question. When a soldier dies and  the flag is handed to the next of kin, what happens after that? Think about it. How do you think military spouses, siblings, parents continue to live? Or how many do you think just want to kill themselves? For them, there is nothing worth living for anymore.
People never think how these families live in darkness, trying so hard to cope from day to day. Every move they make is a consistent struggle. Well, this story shows just that. It enlightens the point of view of a family who is torn apart when one child dies tragically at war, and leads another child to take his own life.  To how these deaths takes a major toll on the parents.

"On Borrowed Time" Project has such an impact on our cast and crew. Everyone has been working very hard to ensure the message gets out and the voices of those who continue to cope with the lost of a loved one at war can be heard.
The film maybe a short, but it's a huge project in so many ways. Majority of our crew are veterans, siblings, parents, and spouses of veterans. That says a lot about how much dedication is going in to making this film. The cast is so awesome and delightful to work with.  For  them, this film holds a special place in their hearts.  I'm just so blessed to have an amazing group of people be apart of this project.

This story is not just about a fallen soldier. It's about the families. There is a message in this film, which is never taking life for granted, sacrifice, struggle, love, and forgiveness, which leads to a way of healing. From all of us, to all of you. It's not just about the film. it's about the families who were left behind.

THE TEAM
 Mary McDaniel/Writer/Director/Producer - IMDB

Mary McDaniel was first drawn to filmmaking in 2006, in the Theatre program at Purdue University in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was the effect of storytelling that compelled her to take the next step into getting both in front and behind the camera.

One of the first programs she worked on was at Central Texas College in Killeen Texas, as a Co-Anchor, and then as a broadcaster for high school football.

In 2009, shortly after her time in the United States Army was up, she was accepted into the film program at The Los Angeles Film School in 2009. There, she learned the fundamentals of filmmaking that allowed her to be an innovative and creative artist.

Her goal is to bring a much-needed derivative feel to Independent filmmaking. She then took several freelance jobs as a camera operator for Latino MTV, Rise Media, Brook Valentine, and the Stunt Women awards.

She proved herself as worthy, when she took on the job as an Assistant Producer at John Reddick Productions; thereafter she volunteered with The International Latino Film Festival, as a Technical Director in 2011.

In 2012, she produced her first short film, “Living and loving in the Moment,” which, won the “Viewer’s Choice Awards” at the Valjean Friday Night Film Festival.

As a writer/Director/Producer, her creative use of dynamic and diverse gritty storytelling will convey a taste of overcoming adversity in a powerful and uplifting manner. She currently is the Owner of ReelWay Film Productions (2015).

R. Kim Shultz - Composer - IMDB

Kim's musical background was developed early in life.  He was immersed in private and higher education musical training; after which he gained a great deal of practical experience as a professional performer.  His musical focus was in stringed instruments, keyboard, percussion and vocals.  He was a professional performer for over 15 years and performed throughout the United States.

After retiring from live musical performance and becoming very successful in the corporate world, he redirected his passions back to music composition in 2008.  His primary focus is music composition for film, video games and trailers.  He is very familiar with all music styles and can compose in any genre.

Kim studied music theory at Rose State College and earned a Master’s Degree, in International Business, from George Washington University.  He is a BMI Composer, Six Sigma Certified Green Belt, and a Certified Project Manager.  The two later certifications may seem odd in the music industry; however, they have served his musical career well.  Six-Sigma is a discipline based on quality/defect free work and Project Management is a discipline based on delivering projects on time and within budget.

In 2016 Kim will be returning to school to complete his Master of Arts with a focus on Orchestration for Film.

J'Lane Spence- Actress - IMDB

J’Lane has had a passion for acting ever since she was a child. She watched every Disney movie she could get her hands on. Her passion wasn't just acting, it was anything to do with performing, which included music as well. J’Lane was the little girl who sang into her hair brush and had pretend dramas playout in her head.

In college she enjoyed her acting classes tremendously. She followed her other dreams which included helping others through counseling and then through becoming a minister. Her passion for acting never left her and in the past five years, she has taken film acting classes and improv classes. Gratefully, she has a wonderful husband that supports her dreams of acting. So in between raising children and being a minister, she gets to follow her dreams of being an actress through God's loving guidance.

Tim Hess - Actor - IMDB

Tim is one of the most tenacious individuals on the planet. He pursues only those activities in life that he is passionate about. His years of working and living worldwide created opportunities for him to do public speaking. After retiring, he developed an interest and subsequent passion for acting. Since then, he has become very active in movies, televison, commercials and print work. He has trained with some of the best in the industry, including L.A. Standard, Stephen Bridgewater and Gerry Grinnel.

Hannah Holub - Actress

Hannah was born in Sealy, Texas in 1993.  Hannah’s passion for performing began shortly thereafter.  Starting dance lessons at the age of 3, Hannah fell in love with the stage.  At the age of 4, she made her acting debut landing the role of Gretel in Austin County Community Theater’s (ACCT) production of The Sound of Music.  The next 14 years Hannah performed in every community theater performance, summer theater performance, dance recital, and public school performance that she was able to fit into her schedule (Hannah was also an avid multi-sport athlete). Oddly enough, it was on the softball field as an 8-year-old, that Hannah was given her nickname: Hollywood.)

After her graduation from Sealy High School in 2011, Hannah began her college career pursuing a degree in special education at UTSA & TWU.  However, she soon realized that her heart belonged in two places:  The University of Texas at Austin, and on stage.  She decided to throw caution to the wind and applied to UT’s College of Theatre & Dance to follow her dream. Hannah’s acceptance into this program last semester was the first step on her journey.  Since re-joining the acting world, Hannah has once again filled her schedule with as many performances and roles that will fit her schedule.  Her first college stage production was in the recent performance of Enter A Woman, Pretty Enough, an original play by UT MFA playwright:  Diana Small. Ultimately Hannah would like to be a film actress. With that in mind, she has auditioned ferociously and is thrilled to have already performed in two student short films, as well as having the honor to currently be a cast member of ReelWay Film Productions’ short film, “On Borrowed Time”, and Twitchy Dolphin Flix’s feature film, “The Last Beautiful Girl.”

Kelsi Anne Weatherby - Actress - IMDB

This blonde hair green eyed actress started her acting career at just age 3. Being a shy little girl, Kelsi's parents put her in theatre to "break her out of her shell". As a child actress she went on to perform in over 40 plays and starred in roles such as "Cinderella" in Cinderella, Well Sort Of. And "Becky" in Tom Hatcher. In no time, Kelsi fell in love with being in the spotlight and started her career in movies and television. Growing up in Sacramento, California, Kelsi starred in over 10 commercials and made an outstanding appearance on hit TV shows such as TLC: Randy to The Rescue and The Billy Graham Show. One of Kelsi's greatest memories was being filmed in Michael Jackson's music video, "Cry". Kelsi continues to rise in her acting career booking roles in films and television in Austin, Texas where she has resided since 2004.

In 2014, Kelsi participated in a PSA on underage sex trafficking. Kelsi spends her free time raising awareness for human trafficking victims, holding events in Austin and also traveling to third world countries such as Belize, and helping families in poverty and human trafficking victims there. She hopes to have her own organization one day to help more people in the world!

Kelson Alderman - Actor - IMDB

Kelson has the type of personality that can keep you laughing until your sides hurt. He can be put into any situation and act on it and be just fine. Kelson likes to be more of an improve guy but can also memorize lines fairly easy. The agency he had in the past found him two projects in which he starred in both roles. Now he’s on his own looking to find an agency that will better match his abilities. Kelson is a very hard worker and puts his all into whatever he’s doing and does not like to fail at anything. His interests include, of course, making people laugh and he hopes one day to stand in front of an audience and do what he loves.  He loves the outdoors, trying new things to see if he can succeed at them. He loves taking care of himself by going to the gym every day and eating right. He also loves to spend time with his family.

Kelson has been acting for two years but recently took a year off to find full-time employment and get on his feet and now he’s back and ready to do this! This will be his second short film but his first with ReelWay Film Productions. He has done theater and some commercials such as “Lets Rodeo San Antonio”, “Go Spurs Go”, “and “Doritos-Rodeo”. Some of his special skills include, riding horses, all sports, singing, memorization, and having comedic timing like a champ. He has trained with Adrian R’Mante, Matthew Timmons, Tyler Steelman, Giononnie Samules, and Johnathan Goldstein.
Landon Smith - Actor

Landon is 6 year old and lives in Oklahoma. He is a 1st grade student who loves watching Power Rangers and attending Kung Fu classes. He is excited about working on his first short film and looks forward to a career in acting. He wants to touch and entertain people with the stories he's involved in.
