Who we are?
„ Now We ask permission to entertain you, With melody,
dance and play, too. Expert eyes look at this merry comedy, Behold the forest
and not just a tree.
Just a
coincidence, if it’s about you, Don’t tell anyone, think it through. And if you
memorized a dance or a song, Our act has its purpose, we weren’t wrong.”
/ The lure of The Caravan Theatre /
In 1978
a big moment came in the life of Vojvodina’s theatrical culture. By initiative
of young theatrical people the Caravan Theatre was formed.
Primary
the function of the Caravan Theatre was to take the theatre to settlements
where it would not go otherwise. It allows experimentations and innovations
which is necessary in theatrical culture. It began like an experiment and
became a tradition.
Caravn
Theatre visits 25-26 villages in alternate sequence every year. During these
thirty-five years they reached 90 settlements, which are mainly in Vojvodina,
but they were in Hungarian settlements in Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia, too.
The
society of the Caravan Theatre is different from year to year. There are mostly
students of the Dramatic Arts College, because it’s a great opportunity for
professional practice. Beyond them there are students from other colleges and
secondary schools. Sometimes professional actors join them. Till now, they had
approximately 270 members.
For the performances of
the Caravan Theatre there is no need of buying a ticket, but after the play
they collect donations in a hat.
Looking
through the history of the Caravan Theatre we can see a developmental curve
based on the freedom of motion, because it is not bind to style requirements or
specified aspects. There aren’t imaginary tendencies, except to make something
that moves rural and urban audience too, but also serves their own professional
favour. It was forming on the way, and that’s still happening nowadays.
In
the beginning on the theatre repertoire were mostly farces. Later it expanded
with full-length and more serious pieces, from light comedies to serious dramas.
Nowadays the programme offer is wide. Every year they bring something new from
the huge range of dramatic literature with some changes, under the given
conditions.
Since 1978 the theatre has
performed over 700 full-length performances for more than 500.000 guests.
This travelling theatre proves the
fact that theatrical culture does not consist of specified place or any
supplement, but the experience which forms in us. This kind of performance
becomes personal so for the viewer as for the actor.
What we need?
We are fundraising for €2500
to pay for our summer tour expenses, to perform more shows and first of
all to visit more small villages where there
aren't any possibilities for this kind of entertainment.
By donating to our fund you will enable Caravan Theatre
to share theatrical culture and give the Hungarian minority an opportunity to
visit performances on their mother tongue.
Your donation will help The Caravan Theatre in bringing
bilingual, full-length performances to the rural regions of Vojvodina and the
surrounding countries promoting the rich multicultural heritage of
the region, and the importance of the harmonic coexistence with other nations
and with the environment.
We believe there is great need for art in our society to
revitalize communities and quality of life, so your money will benefit the
community,too.
How will the money be used?
We have got some pretty creative
members who can do amazing things with little money, but no amount of creativity
can change the fact that we need to pay for things like:
·
Costumes
·
Lighting,
sound
·
Publicity,
photos, video
·
Meals
and lodging
·
Transportation
Your funds will always support the
performers even if we don’t reach our goal.
What will you get?
By helping us you will become part
of our family and our history. Members of Caravan Theatre will be forever
grateful!
How else can I help?
Help us get the word out and make some noise
about our campaign! Share our campaign with your friends and family on IndieGoGo,
Facebook and Twitter. Caravan Theatre thanks you in advance for doing whatever
you can to support this effort.
