On Site is a one act comedy about the life of Derek Setliff, the gay Michael Scott version of a property manager. On Site was originally a 13 minute comedic mockumentary pilot I wrote and produced, and from that, I developed a 30 minute one-act play which will make its premier this summer at FRINGE FEST!!!!
In reality, Derek is a heightened version of myself. Like Derek, I am a property manager. Oh, and also I came out of the closet later in life. In my writing, I want to explore what it feels like to be yourself and question if others will accept that true version of you. One challenge many gay men experience, myself included, is that feeling of stunted emotional growth. While many people start exploring dating and their sexuality closer to puberty, people in the closet are deprived of that exploration in an open way until they come out. It’s important to me to produce a show about a 30-something gay male trying to both be himself and also find a genuine connection with others.
As it turns out, producing a play is challenging, y’all, and because I care more about getting butts in seats than I do about making money, I have 2 questions to answer:
- How many discounted tickets can I give away?
- How many free tickets can I give away?
In order to answer those questions, I gotta take a look at my budget:
- Hollywood Fringe Registration: $300
- The Space: $1,037
- 5 performance slots
- 2 hours of tech time
- 1 tech person
- Insurance
- Publicity: $500
- Programs
- Posters
- Postcards
- Finge Festival Ads
- Misc: $300
- Food for actors
- Props / Set pieces
Total: $1,837
Technically, I need to sell 154 full price tickets to break even. This means as of today, I can give away discounted or free tickets to 6 people. That’s not so great, and that’s ONLY if we sell the rest of the seats at full price. This is a lot of pressure, and again I care more about getting butts in seats than I do about money. So, this is where you come in:
With your help, my goal is to raise $1,500 to help offset these numbers. If you help me bring in $1,500, then I only need to sell 29 full price seats in order to break even. That means I can give free or discounted tickets to up to 104 people! That makes it that much more likely that we will, in fact, sell out.
Here’s where you come in. If you donate $25, I will send you a code for 1 ticket to see On Site! If you donate $50, you will get a code for 2 tickets, and so on, and so on. Not only does your money get you the opportunity to see the premier of On Site, but it also helps us . . . wait for it . . . GET MORE BUTTS IN SEATS!
Thank you for your support. I love you!
