Short Summary
Our story is about a young woman, Lilly, who has taken a lot of emotional abuse from her father. He demands perfection that he never achieved and she cannot live up to. Lilly hits a tipping point, leaving her country for the United States, determined to shed the barriers her father imposed that have stopped her from expressing herself.
In Los Angeles, Lilly finds work, but it's difficult to keep a job. Her real assets are her guitar, her songs and that wonderful voice. But when she is in front of the mic her father's voice shuts her down.
It doesn't help that she is living out of her car. That she cannot earn the respect of her peers.
Yet she is a determined person.
Will a chance encounter with another outsider set her free from the anxieties that overwhelm her. The voice of her father in her head?
Needs
We will be using the funds for locations, post-production, prop rental, cast/crew meals, their gas. We also hope to compensate our actors as well.
Sound. Editing the sound in any film is important. Editing the sound in Open Mic is everything. We have scenes on a windy beach and we have musical performances to clean and perfect. That takes specialists.
Donations of any size are welcome. We have perks to offer, however if all you have is $5, that is gold to us.
Time Frame
We have 7 days of shooting completed, with two more days scheduled for March 2017. But to do so we need to rent a bar/cafe location and add background extras.
March: two days of shooting
March through June: Post production.
July through August: We will set up our screening and begin entering film festivals.
Our Cast and Crew
We have a tight knit cast and crew. The first seven days of shooting went smoothly. It isn't a matter of just getting along in a professional manner, it is sharing the passion, listening to each other, respecting everyone's role in this collaborative endeavor.
We have covered a lot of ground in a few short weeks.
