About the Orbifold Tarot

The Orbifold Tarot is a modern take on the traditional tarot system. I wanted something simple and contemporary that still communicates the essence of the cards themselves. I’m finding more and more that my reading style centres around the number + suit (element) associations first, and any additional associations second, and I wanted a deck that reflects that.
I decided that the circle — being the most basic shape — would be my basis, with a minimal color palette of one color per element, plus black and white. Every variation in color, shape, and pattern results from the blending of the 6 basic colors, the arrangement of circles, and the repetition of those circles according to numerical value.

This use of circles, numbers, and elements creates a result that is both beautiful and minimal. From simplicity rises complexity, and complexity reduces to simplicity. Each card represents rhythm, balance, and pattern — in contrast to the chaos of life, reflected by the shuffled deck.
The Orbifold Tarot taps in to your subconscious and intuitive capacities, based on what you already associate with number, elements, color, and pattern. Its geometries and intrinsic interconnections are evocative and stimulating, yet strangely calming — they facilitate a deep meditative state from which new connections are drawn, unseen perspectives are revealed, and reflection leads to insight.

This allows parts of the design to be processed with a high gloss coating that makes the colors and designs pop, while also creating a subtle tactile effect. Together, the visual and tactile impact adds a new dimension to your reading experience.

Unfortunately, being a specialized method, high gloss printing is almost cost-prohibitive in smaller runs. Hence, I really need YOUR help to realize this project at a cost that allows me to provide an innovative product at a reasonable and comparable market price.
