Short Summary
The Oulad Teima Library Project aims to promote the notion of reading for pleasure amongst our local youth here in our little town Oulad Teima, Morocco through the rejuvenation of our library. Thankfully, the level of education in our town and in the rest of the country is on the rise. However, when I asked even my most motivated and brightest students if they read in their free time, only one or two said yes. I found that books are still synonymous with studying to most and that those who are eager readers have a difficult time finding resources. Studies show that Moroccans read on average 1 book per year.

-my name is Anna Wallenberg and I am a Peace Corps volunteer here, working with the Director of our youth center and local high school and college students
What We Need & What You Get
In order to convince our youth that reading can be fun, we need MORE BOOKS! Not just any books, but age appropriate novels in English, Arabic and French (our 3 main languages). Our target group is between 16-25 years of age with varying reading levels. In order to purchase books we are in need of monetary donations. Every little bit helps!
The Impact
Investing in another's education is invaluable, but even more than that, you will be helping us provide our youth with a sorely needed outlet for their imagination. A lot of the work I do is geared towards enhancement activities that provide outlets for the creativity of our youth in an educational way.
Risks & Challenges
The only risks I foresee might be difficulty with international shipping. I can assure you that in addition to book donations from within Morocco, our aim is to buy as many books as we can from here. However, the majority of the English and French books which we may purchase with your donation will hopefully be purchased in France, where they can easily be shipped here.
