Xing struggles to balance his passion for art with the expectations imposed on him by his mother. Personal aspirations and family are put into question when despite her disapproval, Xing participates in an art contest in an attempt to change his mother’s mind. Viewers embark on a journey that challenges societal and cultural standards and encourages viewers to break free from limitations, even if it means enduring conflict between personal aspirations and parental expectations. It is a film that inspires viewers to overcome obstacles, embrace their passions, and ultimately find their own direction, especially when it means stepping outside the box.
“Outside the Box” will explore the nostalgic tribute to the 2000s, embracing a soft, clean, and visually pleasing aesthetic. The tones explored within the film create a juxtaposition of vibrant hues and subdued tones that visually depict the contrast between the protagonist's pursuit for art and the disapproving environment he finds himself in.
The film draws inspiration from acclaimed directors such as Bong Joon Ho, Wong Kar-wai, and Wes Anderson. The influence of Bong Joon Ho will lend a sense of social commentary and realism, capturing the complexities of the protagonist's environment. Wong Kar-wai's artistic flair will infuse the film with poetic visuals and emotional depth, while Wes Anderson's meticulous attention to detail will bring a symmetrical and stylized aesthetic to certain scenes.
The film will utilize experimental and visually striking transitions to enhance the narrative flow of the film. With minimal dialogue, the film will rely heavily on the visual storytelling and the protagonist's emotional development. Through the subtle use of sound patterns, colors, and evocative visuals, the film will evoke a range of emotions.
Most significantly, “Outside the box” will immerse the audience in a world where the pursuit of passion and happiness clashes with traditional expectations. Through its distinct visual aesthetic, inspired film structure, and emphasis on emotional storytelling, the film will invite viewers on a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and the pursuit of artistic fulfillment.
PARTIAL STORYBOARD:
We project a majority of our budget to be allocated towards cast and crew. Our priority is to secure talent that is capable of replicating the dynamic between Xing and his mom. Following that, we plan to budget a significant amount for film festival submissions and streaming. Should our vision come to life, we would like our message to reach as many audiences as possible. The rest of our budget will be allocated to filmmaking components that will help us in our process of bringing Xing's story to life.

I have had the opportunity to contribute to projects, including student films, music videos, short feature films, and corporate projects in food and lifestyle. In these projects, I have taken on diverse roles such as assistant filmmaker, casting director, producer, and background actor. The experience has allowed me to gain a wider understanding of the different perspectives involved in filmmaking. What sets me apart is my personal journey. Even in the face of disapproval and physical obstacles from my parents, I believe in seizing every opportunity and making the most out of it. I knew from a young age that I wanted to share my story through art, be it through the lens of a camera, the stroke of a paintbrush, or the power of storytelling.
With your help, we hope to break out of our boxes and pursue our passion in a way that we can show to the world. Thank you and we look forward to your support!

Together, me and Jordan have experience pursuing our own entrepreneurial ventures that embrace our love for film. I personally have worked on many contracted projects that involve drone-videography, photography, and videography in areas such as real estate, showcasing, and general recreation. Through my experience, I have become well-versed in many essential filmmaking skills such as filming, video-editing, and direction. I have also learned a lot of the soft skills that come with creating a short film such as communication, empathy, and collaboration.
With this passion and love for the art form, I believe Jordan and I have what it takes to express our vision. By supporting our film, you are not only endorsing our work but also becoming part of a larger narrative. We will utilize what we already have, coming out of our pockets we will fund assets such as lighting and wardrobe, but with a little help, we can make our project a step bigger.
