Short Summary

I figured my eighth birthday would come and go as the others had, little did I know I would receive a gift that sparked a fire within my soul. Within a small, discreet yellow envelope my parents placed the key to my future, a library card. The library card took me on a magic carpet ride through space and time with nobody but the characters as my companions and the author as my tour guide. My afternoons and weekends were spent surrounded by mounds of classic novels with my cassette player and a pair of headphones to drown out my world so that I could be enveloped within another. These worlds opened the gateway to the possibility of creating my own and brought about the revelation of what I could do when I put a pen to paper.

As my creativity grew so did my love for the written word. The library card opened the door for my individuality to flourish and exceed my own personal expectations but it wasn't until my freshman year of college that I explored the realm of short stories and fiction writing. On my own I wrote short stories, novellas and poems; eventually I pushed myself to achieve as much as I possibly could in regards to my writing and to begin work on my novel. I found myself developing an ability and passion required for thinking outside the box and integrated it with my inherent creativity.
During my evaluation of various masters programs in Creative Writing, I found more success in overseas programs. Studying and traveling abroad has long been one of my objectives and to be able experience the rich and varied cultures of other communities would enhance my understanding of the world's many diverse artistic perspectives. Firsthand knowledge of the international industry would fill the spaces inherent in a purely domestic perspective. By traveling and studying abroad, I would nurture a greater appreciation for the depth of the arts and writing industry and while also gaining the additional experience necessary to distinguish my skills within the business of publishing. The opportunity to study in an international setting will additionally provide the experience of working with people of diverse cultures, thoughts, and talents. To achieve the level defined by my personal career aspirations, it is essential to experience the world of writing at the international level.

Serious consideration for effective and future positions in the industry of a person's choice often requires a master degree within the discipline. Pursuing graduate study in Creative Writing will enhance and define an in-depth knowledge of the components, the management, and the creative and cultural aspects within the industry itself. A rigorous curriculum will provide a deeper understanding and appreciation of this industry's precise and demanding nature. Being a cultural epicenter and a place to call home to literary geniuses such as Charles Dickens, Aldous Huxley, Lewis Carroll, Christopher Marlowe and more, it was obvious that to pursue this dream England was an obvious choice. Random House, HarperCollins and BBC Books (BBC Publishing) are the three firms I have always aspired to work with. Their esteemed resume of accomplished literary artists is one that any company should envy and something I someday hope to be a part of. A friend of mine once said, "Opportunities within the industry are constantly defined and formulated by those willing to reach beyond established boundaries; to challenge personal limitations." and throughout my journey I will always tread to the edge of my comfort, breathe deep, and step beyond.

What We Need & What You Get

In order to achieve my dream I'll need some outside help!

  • My total cost of attendance is roughly ₤17,000 and I'm only asking for about half of my tuition (Thankfully graduate school in the UK is only 1 year instead of 2)!
  • $13,000 is my minimum goal but I'm hoping to supercede this in order to help with the rest of the tuition as well as travel expenses.

The Impact

If I am able to achieve this dream I wil have succeeded at what I have been pushing for since I was 10 years old; the publication of my first novel. No matter the amount, from $1-100, any donations will help get me closer to the job of a lifetime in the city of my dreams. If you are in a financial bind and can't donate I totally understand (I lived of Ramen noodles for a good portion of my year) but PLEASE don't hesitate to spread the word in any way possible. I will also be accepting prayers, well wishes and positive joo joo in full force :)

Blessings to all who venture onto this page.
