Synopsis
My name is Josh Martin, the writer and director of Paths, a surrealistic coming of age short film about Hunter, a nearing high-school graduate who is less than optimistic about his future and where his path in life is leading him. Hunter believes that he is only capable of dreaming about the many hopes he has in store for life. However, over the course of one night Hunter finds himself chasing his dreams and realizing that striving for what you want really isn’t so difficult with a little courage and help from a friend. He discovers that after dreaming about a thousand new paths, you don’t always have to wake up and walk your old one.
Paths is my senior thesis project, and the last hurtle I must take on before graduating from the Art Institute of California – Sacramento. To make this project the very best that it can be, I have put my heart and soul into writing a compelling and thoughtful piece, while enlisting some of the best crew members in which I have the utmost confidence will help to create an amazing piece. I am also proud to announce that I have found three amazing actors (Jonathan Grebe, Nicole Fong, and Brian Jagger) who will bring the unique characters of Paths to life.
Our Message
Paths is a unique piece in that it does not need any blood, sex, and/or violence to tell a compelling story. At its core, Paths is a simple coming of age story, layered by thoughtful questions that all of us have asked in our lives at one point, but the way our silent protagonist Hunter goes about finding his own answers is certainly not by any ordinary means. The film is about trusting our instincts and letting them take us by surprise, snatching us from the clutches of our well-organized routine for an unscheduled journey.
What We Need
I have a passion for telling stories, and I feel that the positive messages in Paths are ones that should be seen and heard. I am asking for $4000 from this campaign. While a daunting number, your support will be greatly appreciated in helping me to pay for permits, insurance, advertising, equipment rentals, food for my cast and crew, transportation, gas, distribution, and entry into film festivals. Being the poor college student that I am, I am unable to pay for all the listed items above by myself (and believe me when I say I’m already on a bread crumbs and water diet.)
When it comes to funding, EVERY DOLLAR HELPS! Even a donation of $1 can help me in some way, shape, or form. However, I know money is tight nowadays, so if you can only spread the word to your friends and family, that would be greatly appreciated as well!
