An introduction section to Castleton:

The man behind the book and camera:

James lives on the outskirts of the Peak District in the popular town of Matlock. He is an award winning photographer with both 'A Kinder Wonderland' and 'The Last Push', two Peak District images winning major competitions. For years, James has explored the Peak District's nooks and crannies. Photographing the popular spots, through to the hidden gems he has sought out over the years. Now he wishes to share them with you. James has also worked for Blacks Outdoors, Monarch Airlines and Peter Storm. He writes every month for the Derbyshire Magazine and regularly writes viewpoints for Outdoor Photography.

Mam Tor location chapter:

Variety in The Peak District

The Peak District has an abundance of variety to offer. The book will take you to all the locations and show you the different types of photographs you can take. From grand landscapes to intimate landscapes, through sun, snow, rain, different kinds of subjects. Showing you hidden gems and all the classics.

The offers:

I've been hard at work securing some excellent offers to accompany the pre-orders of the book with sponsorship partners of mine.

84.5mm have kindly donated 100 x Basic Line filters, 30 x Classic Line filters, 5 x Proline filters (these are all Cokin P Size) and 25 x 100mm Ultimate Line filters. I have written a blog post over at http://wp.me/p1ZFSL-1k3 which explains what these filters do and how they will help your photrography.

Their 84.5mm basic line filters are the entry line filters that are an easy way of getting high quality filters without much cost.  The size of them is 84.5mm (W) by 100mm (L). You can find the whole product line here

Their classic line filters are the next step up. With higher optical quality these are a good improvement over the basic line. The size of them is 84.5mm (W) by 100mm (L). You can find the product line here

Next up is their professional line, or pro line. These are just like the classic line but are longer in length. This becomes particularly useful when you want to be super accurate in positioning of your filter. The size of them is 84.5mm (W) by 150mm (L). You can find the product line here.

Finally, there is the ultimate line and the filters I personally use. These are full size, 100mm filters and their top product. The size of them is 100mm (W) by 150mm (L). These are very useful if you already own a Lee filter system or if you own a DSLR with a super wide angle lens. You can view the whole line here

Sprayway have kindly donated some jackets to accompany the book.

There are options as well to receive a limited edition 18x12" print with the book, there is a choice of 5 to choose from.

Finally, I have decided to offer 1-to-1 tuition to just 5 people. This will come with a free filter as well as a signed copy of the book where we will go through some of the locations and techniques featured in the book. Two of these 5 will also receive a Sprayway jacket!

All of the perks value work out greater than the value of the book!

Choose one of your limited edition prints from the above.

The book and the layout:

Working with a professional Graphic Designer who is also a photographer, the design has been well thought out to provide both the best layout possible while also not restricting the images used. It was decided early on it had to be clear, well designed and with easy to read text. Visual information was key where possible along with class leading mapping. A concious choice was made to ensure that the book adhered to a standard photographic ratio to ensure images would not be cropped, giving you the full experience. Most importantly of all was that the photographs would come first and the design would compliment them rather than being restrictive. We feel after many painstaking hours that we have come up with what we set out to achieve.

What has been done so far?

Most of the imagery has already been captured and the text is going through the editing phase.  All the locations have now had their provisional lay-outs. This means we are on schedule to maintain release date.

Why do I want to self publish?

Photography is a great passion of mine and something I put my all into. Self publishing allows me full creative control of the book to produce the highest quality book I feel I can put out to you. You won't find any work in the book that I wouldn't be happy to be in my portfolio. They are all images I am proud of with no filler. I want the book to convey in text and images what I would teach out on a days tuition.

Why do I need to crowd fund?

I decided that crowd funding would be an excellent way to open up pre-orders to see the viability of the book. After announcing the book, initial feedback was excellent and over whelming. It has also allowed me to secure some fantastic deals for you with my partners.

When will it be released?

With current progress we aim to release no later than Mid-July 2015.
