Who is Pelagic Dive Travel?
My name is Terry Smith and I am the founder of Pelagic Dive Travel.
Pelagic Dive Travel was born out of my frustration. I have been diving for over 17 years & 14 of those as a Dive Instructor. I couldn't match what I wanted to see, which was a Whaleshark, with my dates of travel. After hours of research, I finally found a liveaboard only to discover it was fully booked.
With my travel background and my diving knowledge, I have created a platform with an ease of search and booking so you don't need to spend hours searching. We are live at Pelagic Dive Travel.

Our ask
We are looking for $5000AUD all or nothing campaign.
This campaign is about our core value - the marine environment - its protection, sustainability & education.
Starting close to home, the Great Barrier Reef, Cairns, Queensland, Australia, we will work with the Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef and Reef Teach.
Everyone has heard and is concerned about the Great Barrier Reef. Working with the Citizens - who are about the circular economy - recycle, cutting waste & how overall your footprint effects the world; and Reef Teach - education about the marine environment and how we affect it directly; we see what we can do, about helping the Great Barrier Reef. Then as we go we look at the plastic issue around Indonesia.
The funds will be used to source local dive operators in the remote regions, look at ways we can help the local communities with education, sustainability and the protection of the marine environments. We will have people visit & then create dive charters into these areas, offer new dive locations, exploration, but more importantly, it's about visiting local communities and connecting divers to them. The local communities in these remote regions are the key to the survival of our marine species.

Who is Brian Robinson?

Robinson's work has contributed significantly to the environs of Cairns, Australia through a number of major public art installations, including the signature five stainless steel woven fish sculptures and fountain installed on the Cairns Esplanade in 2003. And more recently the Citizens Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef public sculpture from which the Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef logo is derived.
To support the Pelagic Dive Travel campaign, Brian Robinson is licensing his original artwork for reproduction on a limited number of t-shirts.

Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef?
Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef is a new type of organization. They are the world’s first collaborative movement for the Reef – a #CoMo not a #NoCo.
They take a unique, data-driven approach to reef conservation that’s powered by you. From citizen science to sustainable fashion to ditching single-use plastics – everyone has a part to play.
Their connected platform brings together people, projects, and organizations from across the Reef and around the world. United they will inspire participation, collaboration and collective impact on a global scale.

What is Reef Teach?
Reef Teach is Cairn’s unique education center for The Great Barrier Reef. They believe that “with learning comes appreciation” and the knowledge you gain from Reef Teach will help you to better understand and enjoy your visit to The Great Barrier Reef.
The presentation is given by qualified marine biologists (all have PhD’s or MSc degrees), who aim to educate, inspire and enthuse visitors to the Great Barrier Reef about this unique and incredible place.

Our perks are based on this. Every t-shirt contribution has a portion going to Brian Robinson, the artist, and to the Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef pack supports Reef Teach as the Fish ID cards are their design/ copyright.
We source quality, safe dive operators/ providers in remote areas where their source of income is based on the marine life they see and care for each day. As divers, we want to protect remote areas and the marine life in them.
This sourcing will lead to increased sustainable tourism for the communities to help further protect their livelihoods.

Pelagic Dive Travel has been through a successful start-up Horizons Accelerator program and has backers behind us. We need your support to become the leading independent dive travel provider & an advocate for the marine world!
As proud supporters of the Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef, we offer a 10% savings on all bookings for each citizen, and, 2% of the total booking will be donated to the organization if traveling to the Great Barrier Reef in any part of their trip.
