Bean is a puppy that Bri, a college student who works to support herself and avoid student loan debt, adopted from a local animal rescue over the summer. Being a typical puppy, Bean put anything in his mouth that he could get his paws on. Last week he became lethargic and had bowel issues. Bri took him to the vet ASAP and after exploratory surgery, an intact 3-inch long toothpick was found in his intestines. It had basically cartwheeled through his stomach, intestines and colon causing immense damage. Bean survived the surgery to repair his organs, but still has a long road ahead of him. He is currently still recovering at Port Royal Vet Clinic in Beaufort, SC with an IV of medications to treat the infection the toothpick caused, and to keep him hydrated. Dr. Marikay has been an amazing God-send for Bean & his family. Bri goes to visit him daily, as does his "grandmother" Kristy. Bri attends college and lives with her grandmother, Kristy who also has a rescue dog. Bri does not want to be a burden to her grandparents, so she works and pays her own expenses. Kristy is a retired schoolteacher who has touched the lives of MANY local children, and currently stays at home to take care of her husband, Art, who has Alzheimer's Disease. Both Kristy and Bri are on a fixed income and Bean's vet bills are rising by the day. Kristy has done so much for the people of this community--Beaufort, SC--and now she needs our help. She's too proud to do this herself, so I did it for her. Bri is being responsible and working, going to school, etc. Any money donated will go directly to pay Bean's vet bills so that Bri can start rebuilding her savings account. Also, any additional money that might be raised over the cost of Bean's vet bills will be donated to the animal rescue Bean was adopted from: Maranatha Farm in Ridgeland, SC. Every penny donated will go to help Bean or other animals in need. Thank you.
