Periorbis: The asteroid mining board game for 2-6 players.

It's a fresh take on worker placement featuring a UNIQUE orbital mechanic. Periorbis is a game of skill and strategy set in deep space. We believe it's the next Powergrid in space!

“Very impressive. Really, really sharp, rock-solid interesting tense and exciting economic business simulation that just happens to be in space, which makes it awesome”

Richard Ham, Rahdo Runs Through

“It’s easy to teach, easy to learn, and a lot of fun to play. Periorbis will test your strategic planning skills and will have you second guessing yourself constantly. The game play is fast and exciting.”

Three Reasons You'll Love Periorbis

Orbital mechanic: This sets Periorbis apart from other worker placement games. The rhythm of the asteroid field creates a unique challenge that overlays your choices compared to other worker placement games

Finely balanced: Periorbis is a game of skill where good play is rewarded, however, all players are kept in the game by the self-balancing mechanics.

Replayable: Periorbis presents players with the opportunity to play against the environment and each other. It'll keep you coming back as you try to find superior strategies to exploit the asteroid belt!

Periorbis is a space themed economic euro game which features worker placement, pick up and deliver, and a brilliant orbital mechanic.

Each person controls a mining start-up. Players must plan ahead, anticipate asteroid orbits, hire workers to leverage their skills and sell ore to make money and keep their business running. All the while trying to keep other players from taking their ore and stealing their business!

Over the course of the game nine asteroids move in and out of range with varying frequencies, each following their own orbit. Managing resources which are in continual motion presents a unique challenge and is what makes Periorbis different and innovative.

Each game of Periorbis is different. Players start the game with a randomly selected specialist. As the game progresses new workers are drawn from the deck and players must continually adjust their strategy to make best use of the workers for hire at any given time.

The impact of luck has been deliberately limited to reward skill and planning. The game incorporates several self-leveling mechanisms. These serve to keep the leader on their toes and keep everyone in the game all the way to the end!

For a quick overview of the game and how it works watch Rahdo’s final thoughts.

To get a sense of what you’ll get and how the game works watch the Board to Death video below. (6mins 40s) Please be aware that the art and name of the game have since been updated.

To see how the game plays and some of the situations and challenges you’ll experience watch Rahdo's Run Through.

The game is played over 12 turns and the aim is to extract and sell the most ore from the asteroids which orbit your HQ.

Each player runs their mining company via their HQ board.

Each turn is made up of three phases. The gameplay reference card below describes these phases. The various employee actions which can be carried out in phase two are explained on the employee action reference card on the right.

As the game progresses more skilled workers become available – but beware their wages increase in line with their skills!

A variety of trading ships visit over the course of a game and players vie to fill them with ore, scoring victory points and earning cash to fund their operations.

The player with the most victory points acts last, so picking the right workers and timing your lead in the game is crucial. The winner of the game is the person who has sold the most ore.

We’re delighted by what reviewers have had to say about Periorbis.

“This is a game of epic scale, you start out small but by the end of the game you are producing tons of ore and shipping a lot of stuff because you’ve got a really really kick-ass crew and you’re capable of doing a lot of stuff"

Review by Rahdo of Rahdo Runs Through

“[Periorbis] uses worker placement and income generation very effectively and will entice even the most stalwart strategy gamers."

Review by BoardGaming.com

4 Stars – A high level strategy Euro worker placement game that melds theme and mechanics to create a great space resource collecting game.”

Review by Boardgamequest.com

“The greatest attraction with [Periorbis] is that it succeeds in blending a unique theme with a worker placement and economic game.”

Boardgaming.com

“The game is filled with interesting decisions for players to make. The different employees, orbital asteroid mechanic, and the unique worker placement mechanic all meld together beautifully to create one of the better Euro games I have played lately.”

Boardgamequest.com

"I’ll say again that I don’t usually go for straight up economic games, but this is definitely one of the best examples I have played."

Almost ready
Periorbis was successfully funded on another platform this year.  Our manufacturer is ready to produce and we are just polishing off the final bits of artwork.  Rather than just wait, we thought to engage the Indiegogo community to help boost Periobis' global reach.  Backing Periorbis is safe as the project will complete!

Money-Back guarantee

If after giving Periorbis a few plays and you decide you don't like it, then you are welcome to send Periorbis back to us for a full refund.

Support
We've ploughed in our time and money to cover the costs of design, artwork, development and prototypes for the last 2 years. We now need your help to manufacture and ship the game around the world for all to enjoy.  We have some orders in place, but more orders will help get Periorbis properly to market.

Priority
We're working to ensure Perks are manufactured and shipped promptly, to ensure you have Periorbis in your hands as soon as possible.

Shipping to the United States, UK, and the European Union is included in all Perks.

Contributors in the following countries will need to pay extra for shipping:

  • Australia: £16
  • Canada: £7
  • New Zealand: £16
  • Switzerland: £14

EU countries included are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and Spain.

We will ship Periorbis internationally. We cannot accurately calculate the cost to ship to all international Contributors. Contributors in other locations should add £49 to their pledge for shipping.

We will refund the difference for rest of the world backers if we are able to bring the shipping costs down. This relies on the number of Contributors in each country.

David Morton, Gareth Newton-Williams and Jason Allan are big fans of Euro-style board games. One evening we decided “let's do it, let's make a board game with our own unique mechanic”. Our friends who play tested the game absolutely loved it and so we thought we could actually publish our own game and maybe, just maybe, create a classic…

To date, everything apart from the artwork has been done by ourselves and we have learnt loads. We would love to make a success of this game and use our experience to create other board games.

A big thanks goes to Mike Hornung, who really helped with play testing. Crucially, Mike inspired us to make the game as slick as possible to avoid too long a game! If you like what you see, please visit our website or like our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter (@periheliongames)

For those that follow board games closely on other crowd funding websites, you may recognise the graphics and text in Periorbis from Kickstarter.  That's because earlier in the year we raised funds to get going on our first production cycle.  This IndieGoGo campaign is to access fans of board games from the IndieGoGo community.

We are going ahead with the production run and any support from the IndieGoGo community to increase production numbers and will help with getting Periorbis known in the gaming community.

Also, a bit more history....last summer we tried to launched this game under its previous name Asteroid Miner.

We thought we were good to use the name, but halfway through our campaign another small board game maker raised an IP dispute over the use of the name!

So we spent ages trying to pick a new name - which couldn't possibly be a target for an IP dispute.  "Periorbis" was chosen. Peri = Greek for close & Orbis = Greek for orbit.
