Short Summary

When the world is your framework, your roots and heritage become even more important; it determines one's identity. It has become my passion to combine my profession of fashion design with my insatiable urge for researching Persian culture, history and fashion (through costumes and images). I have been doing this research on Persian ancient women's fashion since 1998.

My ultimate goal is to publish a book that will be some of the results of my research as well as my design work with illustrations. The book must be published by October 1, 2015, to coincide with an exhibition on Persian history in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

What We Need & What You Get

I need to raise $ 5,000 to publish my book, with this book I want to inform people more about the fashion of one of the oldest civilizations in the world.

$ 25  Free copy

$ 100  4 free copies

$ 500  20 copies or 10 copies and an exclusively-designed shawl with Persian motive by Maryam Entezami.

The Impact

My collection up till now contains over approximately 30 costumes from the Elam period to Pahlavi Dynasty. My first successful exhibition was "Iranian Folkloric Garments", presented in 1997 in the Museum of Anthropology in Leiden, the Netherlands.

As a result of my collection being based on ancient Persian women's costume, I have been invited to showcase my designs on the catwalk both nationally and internationally. I  have been interviewed by various tv channels, magazine and newspapers.

Since November 2013 my designs and research on Persian women clothing from Elam (3200 B.C) to Pahlavi dynasty (1979) have been the subject of a Dutch filmmaker's documentary "Unraveled". We are aiming to have it ready for the (IDFA) international documentary film festival Amsterdam and other film festivals  (2015).

My ultimate goal is to share my costumes, knowledge & insights to a bigger audience to make the richness of our Persian culture more tangible and visible. I hope you are willing to support me in this goal and to make it our joined effort.

Risks & Challenges

To ensure quality and transparency, I have asked a writer/editor friend of mine, Beth Hooper of Tower of Babel Communications and Publications (www.tobcp.com), who also has publishing experience to assist with editing and publishing. We have found a highly-skilled and qualified graphic designer, Kjeld de Ruyter of Puntspatie bv (www.puntspatie.nl), to assist with layout and publishing. Thanks to his skill and contacts, we are able to publish at a high level of quality worthy of the research, but yet in a cost effective manner. We are willing to share the estimates with you upon request.
Other Ways You Can Help

Even if you are not able to help me in financial means, you would really help me by getting the word out. I appreciate your support in all forms:  telling your friends about us through Facebook, website, email, twitter etc. Please use my  Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/persiancostume,  Website www.maryentez.com & INDIEGOGO  to spread the word!
