Hello!
Thanks for taking the time to look at all of this. Here's a smidge about me: I'm an early graduate and will be attending college full time in the fall of 2014. I will be majoring in Bilingual Education and a major passion of mine is mission work.
For those of you who don't know, I recently went to Peru for two weeks in July of 2013 and again in December. In June of 2014, I will be going back for 10 weeks. During these 10 weeks, I will continue working with the same ministries our team has helped in the past two trips. Mission work in Peru has become something I'm very passionate about and hope to continue even after this trip. However, I will need financial support to be able to go back.
Goals and Cost
My goal through indiegogo is to fundraise $1000. This money will cover transportation once I arrive, food, housing, and other miscellaneous expenses once there. I will also hopefully be taking a Spanish class while I am there to better my communication.
Ministries I'll be working with
The three main ministries I will be working with include an orphanage (Hogar de Esperanza), a transitional home (Luz de Vida), and a landfill church.
Hogar de Esperanza, which translates to Home of Hope, is an orphanage with just under 20 kids there. I hope to teach them to use programs on the computer, some basic English, along with other skills while getting to love on them. I would be spending a lot of my time at the orphanage.
Luz de Vida, which translates to Light of Life, is a transitional home for teens who still need structure and support while learning life skills or getting a degree. Luz de Vida has a few girls living in the home and has a larger group of guys and girls who come to their small group on Monday nights and other events throughout the week. They hope to expand to have more kids living in the home. I will be spending time with the youth to help out in any way I can.
The landfill church is a small church built next to a landfill where many people live. These men, women, and children go through the dump to find anything they can recycle, use, or sell to make their living. Every Saturday, there is a church service for the children that included songs, snacks, and a lesson. Parents have also started coming to the service. I would help with worship, Bible studies, or in any way they can use me.
Ways to Donate
I appreciate you even reading all of this and considering helping out. I ask that you keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I have a lot of fundraising to do. If you want to help out financially, there are a few ways you can do it:
- Donations through this website
- I am selling discount cards for restaurants and stores in the Mahomet and Champaign area. They are $15 and I get to keep $11.25 of that.
- Megan Anders and I have been collecting donations to sell at All Things Kids (a consignment shop on Mattis Ave.). Donations can be anywhere from kids clothes, toys, furniture, frames, etc.
Thank you for the consideration and support.
God is doing amazing things!
