UPDATE 12/2/13:
We did it! Thanks to YOU, our campaign was a resounding success - markedly exceeding the goal we had set when we started!
And thanks to YOU, we were not only able to provide typhoon survivors with basic relief goods, when they needed them the most, but also empower them with the means to rebuild their lives and overcome the greatest tragedy.
Truly, thank you. Daghang Salamat!
-------
Hello! We are Odessa and Mai, Filipinos currently working in the U.S. From the other side of the world, we watched, in horror, as Typhoon Haiyan decimated our islands and claimed the lives of so many of our people. Thousands are now living in unimaginable conditions without food, clean water, light, and shelter. It's heartbreaking to see such overwhelming suffering and desperation.
We want to help, but we need YOU.
Your generous contribution can help us provide vital relief goods to those in greatest need in the Philippines right now. $10 can buy approximately 5 liters of water, 3 kilos of rice, 10 canned goods, several packets of noodles, crackers, and a bottle of paracetamol - enough to sustain a whole family for a few days. Imagine what you can do with $20! For those of us who are in the position to give, it takes so little to make such a big impact.
We are funding a small group of people based in Cebu City, Philippines, who have been taking it upon themselves to buy, pack, and distribute goods to severely affected areas in Leyte, Cebu, and its surrounding islands. It is an initiative which started with two people, and grew into a full-scale relief effort comprised of dozens of donors and volunteers.
This is a grassroots operation. Whatever money is received from this campaign will go directly to our main contact in Cebu City, Ligaya Solera-Saberon, to be used to purchase necessary materials for scheduled distribution. Rest assured, your contribution will not be encumbered by bureaucratic roadblocks, and will directly reach the people in need, in the hardest hit areas, in a timely fashion (as is possible).
Please see the ongoing operation in documents below, provided by Ligaya and her team, accounting for everything they have received - in cash and kind, what they have already accomplished and what they are still planning to do.
