We are pleased to announce a new perk for the PI2MEDIA Home
Theater One!
We have designed and developed a
powerful, Class-D Surround Sound Amplifier for the HT1. Based on the TI
TAS5548 96KHz PWM Modulator with integrated ASRC and Audio Processor, this
amplifier provides full 40W/Channel to 4/8/16 Ohm Speakers using Four TI
TAS5342LA Stereo Digital amplifier Power Stages.
This amplifier integrates seamlessly
into the HT1 as shown below:

The PI2MEDIA HT1 offers a true "out of the box" experience. All you need is a power outlet and your favorite TV or Monitor! Each unit ships with:

Well, yes, and no! Most features of the PI2MEDIA HT1 are available in some form or another from a variety of other companies. Roku, Amazon-TV, Chromecast, etc all allow you to stream video from their list of network sources. There are external devices that will take an HDMI source and output 7.1 surround sound. FiveNinjas and others have taken the Raspberry Pi® Compute Module and created integrated streaming and serving boxes. And of course, many, many of you have bought a Raspberry Pi, added OSMC or Kodi and enjoyed the fruits (pun intended) of the Open Source support for the Pi.

The PI2MEDIA HT1 takes the streaming features of those closed commercial media players, adds the HDMI to surround sound output without an external device and combines it all with the Open Source software and support of the Raspberry Pi community, into one beautiful, compact, low-power, remote controllable, hackable, user update-able, affordable platform! While the default SBC used on the PI2MEDIA HT1 is the Raspberry PI® 2 Model B, planned (subject to change) alternate SBC options include the Odroid C2, which adds a higher performance 64-Bit ARM Quad Core CPU and Gigabit Ethernet, as well as the UP-Board with Intel x86 Quad Core and Gigabit Ethernet.

We are a small company located in the littlest state of Rhode Island USA! Smaller than some ranches in Texas, but big in spirit. We take our energy from the great college community here and the can do attitude of the typical New Englander!
Formed as a separate company from Cogent Computer Systems, Inc, we have been designing, developing and manufacturing sophisticated Microprocessor based products since 1992. In 2015 we formed Pi 2 Design in order to bring our expertise to the rapidly growing deployment of the Raspberry PI and other low cost SBC's into the embedded and home markets. We also formed two brand names, PI2MEDIA and PI2EMBEDDED to show our support for these two great areas of application. Our first product, the PI2EMBEDDED 502SSD Multi-Function shield was successfully funded on Kickstarter and is currently shipping to backers as we speak. The feedback we have already received has been very positive:
- Received the shield last week... Works very well, quite a bit faster than a SanDisk Extreme USB3 stick. - Petr S.
- Received mine yesterday - quality looks awesome - very well packed to protect it from the dangers of USPS ;-). George G.
- I Just received the SSD Shield today, awesome. Chris H.
Even when there are issues or questions, they are quickly answered and dealt with. For example, Our PSU supplier sent us non-compliant UK cables. When pointed out by a customer, we quickly took responsibility and put a replacement process in place. We're here for the long haul!
The 502SSD shield was also featured on several technology blogs and web sites including:

Even though we are taking proven Hardware IP and Open Source Software we need the initial volumes to help reduce the production cost per unit, as well as help cover the cost of software development. We are also asking for your help in refining the Open Source Software with your ideas and input. In addition to offering the standard skins per the OSMC® build, we will be accepting user generated skins that we could then deliver with the units. We need your help as well in making sure we have this right! Your feedback and comments (hopefully nice!) will help us refine the product before we go to production.
Finally, we are providing access to the 502SSD and 502V2S shields and un-assembled case so you can build your own!
