Short Summary
Please Choose A Gender gives us a glimpse into a future world where everything is divided by biological sex through the eyes of a non-binary person. Throughout their journey they are faced with challenges which make them question if they truly belong in the female life they have been forced into. However, they are lucky enough to meet a trans woman and a genderfluid person who help them break the system.
As a non-binary person myself, I had started to realise the severe lack of representation there was for people like me. So I took it upon myself to create this film which will hopefully be helpful for others in the community who may feel lost; but also to aid others in understanding what we go through.
What We Need & What You Get
As students, especially during these times, we have very little money of our own to make these films as great as we'd like them to be. So we are reaching out in order to hopefully gain some other interested people to back out project.
The biggest costs of this film will be for costume, props and set design as we would like to make this film feel as high-budget as possible. However we will also need to feed the cast and crew whilst on set so that will also be a large part of our budget.
As we are looking to spread this film out to as many people as possible in hopes of lighting the way for future non-binary representation, we are hoping to save aside some money in order to apply to festivals all around the world.
The Impact
This film is very dear to me and the entire team has very high hopes for it.
When we take a look at LGBTQ+ representation in the media we can see a severe gap when it comes to anything other than gays and lesbians. It is our wish that this film starts to fill this gap and over time creates a landslide of representation from transgender, to pansexual, asexual and overall queer people.
Risks & Challenges
There are a lot of risks around filming in todays climate. All of us are very nervous and have no idea what's to come. This makes things very difficult when planning shoots in advance.
We are crossing our fingers that we will be able to go ahead with the shoot. The script was written with covid restrictions in mind, with keeping a minimum amount of characters on screen together and restricting proximity and touch as much as possible. If everything goes well we will be putting in extra safety measures to make sure that everyone stays safe.
However, if the shoot is not possible on the planned dates then we will simply postpone it and the money raised will be saved until then.
