What is PocketShare 5

PocketShare 5 is a pocket-sized portable workstation, powered by Ubuntu, which allows you to easily connect up to 8 other devices and share files over a wireless network.

Sharing files and backing up mobile devices is simple and easy thanks to PocketShare 5’s compact size and mobility.

If you need more than 16GB of storage space, you can expand PocketShare 5’s disk space up to 2TB with four 256GB microSD cards and one 1TB mSATA SSD.

What can I do with PocketShare 5

Wirelessly backup and share your entire digital life with PocketShare 5. You can save your data in real-time without the hassle of cables and cords, and unlike most other portable storage devices, storage expansion with the PocketShare 5 is incredibly quick and easy. PocketShare 5 supports storage expansion up to 2 terabytes with four 256GB microSD cards and one 1 terabyte Solid State Drive. The ability to store up to 2 terabytes of data means that you won’t have to worry about deleting your files just to make more room.
You can enjoy all your multimedia files whether you’re traveling or just relaxing at home. Play music directly from PocketShare 5 via Bluetooth 4.0 or watch a movie on your mobile device. With a micro HDMI port, you can easily connect PocketShare 5 to an HDMI compatible output, making it easy to watch video lectures, movies, and TV shows on a bigger screen.

When connected with an HDMI cable, PocketShare 5 works as an Ubuntu Workstation. Additionally, if you install collaborative applications, you can use PocketShare 5 for small group collaboration.

Up to 8 devices can simultaneously connect to PocketShare 5, and the speed will still be fast enough to play Ultra High Definition (UHD) video at the same time.

If that’s not enough, the built-in Ethernet port allows PocketShare 5 to be used as a secure Wi-Fi Hotspot. 

Isn't it complicated to use PocketShare 5

It’s actually very easy to use PocketShare 5. Just insert a memory card and it’s done! You can also set up a RAID configuration on demand to use multiple memory cards.

 

Network-attached storage (NAS) is impossible to carry and use on-the-go because it always has to be connected to the Internet. Wireless hard drives tend to be bulky and fragile with little or no options for expansion. PocketShare 5 is expandable up to 2 terabytes and can easily be slipped into your pocket or bag so that you can enjoy your stored files anytime, anywhere.

• Can I order a Developer Kit?
  

PocketShare 5 is an Ubuntu 12.04 LTS pre-installed device which has root permissions already enabled. Thus, no Developer Kit is available separately.

• Can I order additional batteries or HDMI cables?

• What type of warranty comes with PocketShare 5?
  

PocketShare 5 comes with a 1 year limited liability warranty.

• Can I use the NAND memory space for storage?
  

NAND is a system memory area, so we do not recommend using this space for storage. Please use external storage. Misuse of the NAND memory can void warranty.

• Do you offer a discount for bulk purchases?

• What’s the maximum storage capacity for microSD cards?
  

The highest capacity the UHS-I format supports is 2TB. We recommend that you use reputable brands and products. 

• Can I use any type of microSD card?
  

The type of memory card (TLC/MLC/SLC) doesn’t matter; however, we advocate only using branded products. 

• I am an iOS user. Can I set up automatic sync?
  

Sharing over SMB, CIFS, NFS, FTP, SFTP,or XMBC is always possible, but if you need auto-sync, we recommend to installing the “ownCloud7” server onto PocketShare 5. 

• Can I use M.2 SSD?
  

At the moment, PocketShare 5 does not support M.2 interface.

• Is the battery compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3?
  

Yes. The two batteries are nearly identical except that PocketShare 5’s battery does not include an NFC antenna. 

• Does it come with DLNA?
  

DLNA is pre-installed, but deactivated by default.

• Does it support WebDAV?
  

WebDAV is not pre-installed, but you can install it on demand.

• Is PocketShare 5 a Ubuntu Certified hardware?
  

Not yet, but we will contact Canonical for certification.

• Can I install Android OS?
  

Any kind of OS or application can be installed by the user, but it will void the warranty.

• Does it have a torrent client application?
  

You can install any torrent client on demand.

• Does PocketShare 5 satisfy all certification standards?
  

We will first apply for KCC (Korea Communications Commission) Certification, then any further certifications which are required at a later date.

• I have some customs problem. What can I do?
  

Return or refund is not possible for this reason. 

• What happens if I do a factory reset?
  

It will reset everything and restore the PocketShare 5 to its factory default settings. You may need to backup the device in advance since a factory reset will erase all data.
