Hi Indiegogo backers, my name is Sergio Spinel. I am a furniture designer and interior architect. Throughout my career I have been commited to designing soulfully. I want all pieces and spaces that I design to feel like a constant gift to their owner. My objective is that my design give its user beauty, comfort, serenity, and a sense of value. I work hard to ensure that everything I design soulfully serves those who come in contact with it.
The pandemic that we are currently living through has created a new normal. I want to use design to help. I thought a lot about what I could design to help people sanitize their everyday items simply, conveniently and effectively without sacrificing beauty. I designed POD.
My team and I worked on creating a multifunctional furniture piece that facilitates a clean exterior to interior transition by sanitizing all items that you put inside it.
POD is not only a sanitizing furniture piece, it is also a sculptural floorlamp that will add beauty to any space.
We have already made several prototypes and will be ready to begin production as soon as this campaign ends.

The Sanitizing System

POD uses a PCO + UVC system that reduces bacteria an viruses and removes odors.
It was developed for POD in partnership with IRTRONIX, a UV LED technology company based in California.

Bacteria: Air sanitization of chamber tests result in 3.71 log bacterial inactivation (99.98%) in 90 minutes for S. aureus: Staphylococcus aureus with initial bacterial concentration (cfu/m³) : 10¹². For a 30 minute cycle with the same initial concentration, for the same bacteria, inactivation is .65 log (77.66%).
Viruses: POD's technology includes the UVC system tested by the Guangzhou Institute of Microbiology in China (CGMT). Read more...
Odors: POD's technology includes the PCO system tested by the CHEARI (China Household Electric Appliance Research Institute) to remove over 96% of TMA and MM odors in a 120 min cycle.
VOCs or Volatile Organic Compounds: POD's system removes 83% of VOCs in a 30 min cycle.
A typical POD cycle will run 2 hours unless you interrupt the cycle. PCO + UVC systems are commonly used for air purifiers and refrigeration. See testing information here.

POD is hands free. A motion sensor or Alexa will open and close POD.

Hang your coat, mask, shoes, bag, and any other item you want to sanitize.

Place your phone on the wireless charging tray.

When POD closes, the sanitizing cycle will begin.

LED indicators will let you know when the sanitizing cycle is complete. A typical sanitizing cycle will last 2 hours. You can interrupt the cycle at any time by opening POD.

One more thing...
POD will also include UVC LEDs that can be optionally turned on/off for direct UVC light dosage on personal items. Direct UVC light dosage has been widely studied to help sanitize personal items when shined directly. However, it is also known to cause the degradation of certain materials such as polymers. This is why the use of this feature is optional. If the UVC LED option is turned on, the LEDs will be on for 15 minutes during the regular sanitizing cycle. If POD is opened, the LED's will automatically turn off.

Sergio Spinel, the creator and founder of POD, has designed and produced custom high end furniture for more than 20 years in several countries including the US, Panama, Peru and Colombia. Sergio has been published in influential design magazines in Colombia and is currently a well regarded San Francisco interior architect.
Our cofounder Erick Barto is a Manufacturing Engineer with 13 years of experience including stints as a Production Engineer for high precision oil well equipment in the oil services industry and leading Six Sigma projects in the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) industry.
We have partnered with IRTRONIX, a UV LED technology company to develop an efficient sanitizing solution that can be implemented in your home at an affordable price.
We are a strong and dedicated team who has the necessary skill set to succesfully scale the production of POD.
In the past 4 months we have iterated in design, prototyping and testing until we finalized a viable solution to bring to our backers. Our vendors are ready to start full production.
