Hey! I'm Annie and I am a graduating senior at New York University. I am from Northern California, and I spent the first 20 years of my life playing soccer. My thesis film captures the complicated love that people have for sports, while following a young girl as she struggles with her sexuality and identity as a whole. This film is deeply personal to me, and I think it is one that many people can relate to. All in all, I think it has something to say, and I believe that I have something to say as well, and I am astoundingly grateful for all of you who contribute to the making of this film.

Where the Money is Going

Our number one goal is making a film that people care about and feel excited to make. Our film creates ties between the overwhelming athletic culture to the struggles a young girl faces with the confusing navigation of love and passion. Our story is about having a passion, and what happens when you lose it. It incorporates spoken word poetry as a way to immerse the audience in the emotions of the main character. We need your help to make this film happen! The funding we receive will help us go a long way in achieving our goals to make a film that can touch people's hearts.

The Story and Impact

This is an experimental film about a young soccer player who sustains one too many concussions and struggles to figure out what to do next, as familial expectations and the pressure of passion catch up to her, she turns to writing poetry, where she discovers what it means to know yourself and what it means to love.

Youth athletics and the culture of passion are not represented enough on screen, and they play a huge role in the coming of age of many people. This story will give representation to the queer community, and what it means to fall in love with someone who might not love you back. It points to the pain of being a teenager, being weighed down by her passion, and it highlights the importance of having a supportive family. This film intersects soccer and poetry, and how each of us grows to know ourselves.
