Poetry Is a picnic! And we need your help to buy blankets.
Poetry Is Productions is committed to presenting high quality theatre of the poetical variety to anyone and everyone who is around to see it. With this festival, which is our largest-scale production and the first OUTDOOR performance we have undertaken, we hope to reach more people than ever before with revamped tragedies to move the soul- and make you laugh!
Our production presents unique challenges, including: a trapdoor full of flames, a television with real-time actors playing "True Grit", a pike fight ending with a character transforming into rain, the Milky Way onstage, and hundreds of other amazing and mind-bending acts of theatre.
Your contribution to our campaign, however large, will heavily impact the production value of these plays. You will also be contributing to the actors' and design team members' pay for this project, because Poetry Is believes in paying everyone adequately.
Poetry Is has previously produced plays to wow audiences, including BERNARDA ALBA AND HER HOUSE at Redtwist Theatre, PLATH/HUGHES at the Chicago Musical Theatre Festival, WILDE'S SALOME at Gorilla Tango Theatre, and BUSTER KEATON PASSES BY at several play festivals. We are thrilled to be sharing MEDEA and PHAEDRA, RELEASED. in one go, and are so grateful for your support, as donors and audience members and fans of poetry!
This festival is one of the FIRST Poets Theatre festivals to be held in Chicago, and is certainly the first to be outside, with this level of production value. Our gracious host is the Comfort Station in Logan Square and, for three weekends, audience members will bring picnic baskets, blankets, and sit under the stars to enjoy some high quality performances.
Visit our website, PoetryIs.org, for more information about the productions! Use #FireAndWater to get buzz going, and come see our plays!
And most importantly, make a donation!
Your contribution, whatever size, will allow us to buy scenic elements, props, costumes, and pay our team members. The festival is a FREE event for the community, which means your contribution right now will ensure that Poetry Is remains able to support the work of groundbreaking Chicago-area theatre artists.
We thank you for reading this, for watching our video, and for donating, and sincerely hope to see you May 27-June 11 at the Poetry Is Theatre festival!
Poetry Is. (For You. For Me. For All.)
