Update 21/07/20: First Stretch Goal Met, More Sponsors and Stretch Goals

We have been absolutely blown away by the response to our Indiegogo campaign and our plans for this event over the first weekend. With over $2000 raised in funding and over 600 players joining the Discord server already, we are more determined than ever to ensure that the Atlas Collectables POG 2020 Championship provides an awesome weekend of fun and competitive Pokémon TCG  for all involved.

To this end we are announcing a second stretch goal of $3000. The additional money raised will go towards providing:

  • Extended cash prizing to the Top 32 players (up to 10% of official regional tournament prizing)
  • Prize play-mats to the Top 8 players and a trophy to the POG Champ
  • Free to enter TCG Cup and Challenge style events on Day 2 with cash prizing to the top players

Stream sponsors now include  PoTown Store and The Upper Hand, with only 2 spots left available each in the Day 1 and Day 2 streams. We would like to thank all of our sponsors and backers for bringing us this far and look forward to smashing through the next goal!

Update 17/07/20: Funding Goal Met, Event Sponsor and Stretch Goals

The team behind this event have been working hard for a couple of weeks to get things ready to go. We have been approaching sponsors, potential Day 2 invitees, commentators and more in order to have as much concrete info to share with the community as we go live, and we are pleased to say that Atlas Collectables have jumped straight in to pick up the Event Sponsorship perk, pushing us over our funding goal and locking the event in!

This means that the event is now officially the Atlas Collectables POG 2020 Championship and is definitely happening on the weekend of the 22nd/23rd August 2020 with cash prizing to the Top 16 players. This also means that with the support of our other backers - which includes stream sponsor The Meta Pod Podcast - we are well on the way to achieving our first stretch goal of $2000 which, if hit, will see cash prizing to the Top 32 players in the event.

We have been absolutely blown away by the reaction to this event from the people we have contacted, and are looking forward to putting on an awesome global championship event for the Pokémon TCG community.

What's this about?

Following the suspension of all Organised Play activities and the cancellation of the official 2020 Pokémon World Championships, a number of Tournament Organizers have been running tournaments online with great support from the community.

As a "thank you" to the Pokémon TCG Community for supporting our events, many of us are coming together to attempt to provide a replacement TCG event for the cancelled 2020 World Championships run through PTCGO.

We are planning to hold a 2 day event on the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd August 2020 to replace what would have been the World Championships, with the top players from the CP leader-boards across all regions and age groups being offered a direct invitation to day 2.

What do we need money for?

We need to raise $1000 USD in order to provide cash prizing* to the Top 16 players.

Entry to this event will be absolutely free and nobody involved is charging for their time.

By crowdfunding, we can give sponsors the opportunity to promote their brand or product through the event while also enabling players make a contribution that they can afford.

100% of the money received through this campaign will go towards prizing for the event. Once we hit our goal of $1000 USD, we will add stretch goals such as extending the prize pool beyond top 16 or adding physical prizing.

* Players below the age of 18 may receive prizing in the form of voucher or store credit

Why are we doing this?

The cancellation of the World Championships has left a lot of players without a goal to work for, or feeling as if their hard work in the first half of the 2020 has been wasted. With these championships we hope to give the community a large, inclusive event to rally around, work towards and ultimately to be able to crown a champion of 2020!

The Challenge

Putting on an event such as this won't come without its difficulties and a lot of frustration on behalf of the organizers. We have all been running successful online events regularly and understand what is involved to achieve this goal.

We know that without the support of the Pokémon TCG community the event will neither be successful nor relevant.  For this reason, if we do not reach our goal of $1000 USD then the event will not happen. Please support us to help us provide this event for the community.
