Overview
A documentary about legendary Ian Porterfield. Porterfield, who scored in 1973 FA Cup final against Leeds United in Wembley, securing trophy for his club. Porterfield, who gave hope to Armenian National Team, when he lost the hope of survive from fatal desease. Great personality. Winning mentality. The most beloved Scottish in Armenia.

Short Summary

My names is Vahan Gharibyan, producer of sports films and programs at Public Television of Armenia. My idea is to create an emotional documentary about former football player of FC Sunderland and former head coach of Armenian National Team Ian Porterfield. He passed away in September 2007 shortly after his last game as a manager against Portugal. Being categorically forbidden to take flights, Ian nevertheless took the flight to Yerevan for managing one of the most dramatic games in the history of Armenian NT.

What We Need & What You Get

The crew and the technical equipment are there in place for starting the shooting in Armenia. However, we believe, the film will not fully present the personality of Porterfield without shootings in his hometown, Dunfermline, and in Sunderland. Overall 4 or 5 days' trip to the UK (for 3 persons: cameraman, director, producer) will give us an immense material  to create powerful images about Ian.

If, however, we are unable to reach our goal, but receive at least part of it, we will do our best to find financial support from Public Television of Armenia.

The Impact

The documentary will help to explore the personality of Ian Porterfield. The story of his life is unique itself and needs no additional drama. So far, we were unable to find a good story - written or shot - about Porterfield. We believe, he deserves more.

Risks & Challenges

We cannot see any particular challenge, except financial one, that may become a serious obstacle on the way to create the Documentary. We have in our possess valuable archive materials. Combined with shooting from Scotland, Sunderland and Armenia, the film will then be available on-line, but also transmitted via Public TV of Armenia. The audience of the latter is quite impressive worldwide.

Other Ways You Can Help
