On behalf of Frankie and the crew, I'd like to say thank you to all of you for being a part of this! We're so excited to tell this story and I cannot believe we funded the entire goal in under 5 days. That said, every additional dollar is going to improving the film (e.g., now we can afford to shoot Frankie on film too! not just digital!). We cut a lot of corners to get it under $3k, and you all are making it possible for us to do so much more with this story. Let's keep this going! - Ari
Masculinity may be fragile, but Frankie's grasp of it is not. Seven months pregnant and glowing from pending motherhood, she's effortlessly maintained her sense of self and style.
My Mama Wears Timbs will follow along as YouTuber Ari Fitz styles fellow YouTuber Frankie for her official maternity photo shoot in streetwear, menswear and gender neutral clothing. As the shoot develops, they'll show how motherhood actually looks and what it means to be "woman enough".
Ari Fitz is a fashion blogger, creative director and Shorty-nominated YouTuber often cited for her style web series, TOMBOYISH. Today, hundreds of thousands of people follow Ari Fitz to see her fashion films like her PROMBOYISH series, "vlog" videos, curated tomboy style Instagram accounts and more. Featured in NYLON, Buzzfeed, Huffington Post, MTV, i-D Magazine and many others, Ari and her growing TOMBOYISH movement is inspiring those yearning for an unconventional approach to fashion and beauty. She'll creative direct and style this documentary.
Paris McCoy, Cinematographer and Creative Producer, lives in Los Angeles where she was born and raised. She started out as a photographer, but her innate passion for moving images blossomed a focus on cinematography and videography. Her love of documentary film and television found her working at National Geographic and Discovery Communications, honing her craft as producer and editor early in her career. Paris is the Co-Founder of Anti-Villain Media, which is in current production commercial works and documentaries. A consummate observer, McCoy is determined to tell stories in new and exciting ways that will divulge the existing human condition. She'll lead the cinematography for the film.
Kat Contreras’ portraits dare you to look away. And why would you? The Dominican born photographer infuses each shot with raw power and electric energy that reflects her Miami roots and exceptional eye for the eclectic and the extraordinary. Now based in Los Angeles, her work has appeared in Time Magazine, The Advocate Magazine and the Los Angeles Times as well as established galleries in London and Los Angeles. She'll photograph Frankie's maternity shoot.
Hi there, Ari here. So, why did I put this on Indiegogo? I think it's a necessary story about identity, gender, and fashion. The kind of story I wish I'd seen growing up and I need your help to tell it.
Specifically, I'm fundraising to pay the crew (videographer, photographer, editor and makeup artist), renting equipment and the studio for one day, styling the shoot and most significantly, hosting the screening.
Every dollar of the $2,850 will be dedicated to making this film great then show it to the world. Plus to show our appreciation for your help, there are some perks....
As YouTubers who document and share our lives on the Internet, we all agreed we needed an offline component to this project.
Thus, one of my favorite perks is a ticket to our private screening of the film mid June in Los Angeles. There, you'll get an early screening of the film and join a Q&A with Frankie and Ari.
Those who cannot attend, we have other perks! This includes an invite to Frankie's digital baby shower, a e-book featuring the photos from the maternity shoot and more. Sound dope? Check all the other perks listed on this page and join us!
Some of you aren't able to contribute today, but that doesn't mean you can't be a part of this!
We'd love you support in sharing the project and film with your friends. Click here to download images and videos you can use to post on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and your other social media platforms.
