Hi,
My name is David and I'm from Spain. I'm supposed to give you a long talk about me but I'm not going to do that because what you have in your mind is a question...
Can this guy deliver?
And talking about me will tell you nothing about that. But I can show you my actions and you can judge for yourself.
I've been recording videos of my progress since I started and you can watch them on my channel (it opens a new window).
Project Boon
Let's talk about the project and what you're getting from it.
Some time ago I thought: "Everybody loves Brutal Doom, why is nobody doing something like it but with modern engines?" And there it all began.
This is Project Boon, you'll get a Brutal Doom like experience with a modern look using Unreal Engine and fully integrated with Steam.
It doesn't look very "brutal" because I haven't implemented the gore yet but it's coming.
You may have noticed that there are two names written, Project Boon and ProBoon. Why is this?
I started with the intention of making a Doom reimagination but as time went by I decided that instead of doing just this I could create a system that could work on top of different engines so people could develop their own sprite-based shooters without investing time into building the logic behind it.
It's modding on steroids.
So Project Boon is this base and ProBoon is the game resulted from it.
This means that when you support this campaign you're not only getting all the adrenaline fueled shooting action, you're also opening the door for other potential cool games.
And this is because I'll share all the logic and if someone else improves it and make contributions it'll keep growing and instead of mods you'll have fully fledged high quality stand alone games made by talented people.
A community built around the love of old-school first person shooters.
ProBoon
ProBoon is, therefore, the game I'm making using Project Boon, an enhanced Doom Clone in essence, and this is what you WILL get when you support it:
- 3 episodes with 10 levels each
- Implementations of Doom II's weapons and enemies including the almighty Super Shotgun and BFG
- Multiplayer cooperative play
- Deathmatch, including Free For All, Team Deathmatch or 1on1
- A 4th episode with its own game mode, Invasion, taking inspiration from Stronghold (mod), Complex Doom Invasion (mod) and Killing Floor (game). Play it alone or online with your friends
- Big levels with hundreds of monsters and weird architecture
- Tons of gibs and blood
- Easy to use server browser and server hosting capabilities
- Spectator and demo recording capabilities
- Speedrun mode with integrated chrono
This is what you WON'T get:
- Several minutes of logos
- Lootboxes or microtransactions
- Your experience compromised because the central server is shut down
- Boring, long, unnecessary cutscenes
- Politics or a hidden agenda
- An attempt to make it an esport forgetting about being a fun game first
- Quicktime events
This is what you MIGHT get with extra funding:
- A Master Server to allow cross-play between the Steam and DRM-Free versions
- HUGE multiplayer maps for 100 or more players with or without respawn (like Battle Royale)
- A dedicated server executable to create your own customized server
- Compatibility with the Steam Workshop to have new skins, maps, etc.
- A FREE DLC with reworked higher resolution pre-rendered graphics taking advantage of the PBR capabilities of modern engines
Thank you for your time and attention.
