Short Summary

Our passion for the children of our community has helped us build Healthy bodies, trusting hearts, and enriched minds.

  • Founded by 3 New York City teachers, Project Haven was incorporated and obtained its 501(c)(3) status.  As teachers working within the New York City public schools, they witnessed the loss of opportunities for their students to have a safe haven away from the dangers of crime and gang violence once schools let out for the day. Their response to the crisis is the birth of Project Haven, an organization that strives to fill in the void of the lack of after school programs in New York City public schools.
  • Contributions will help us fund programs like martial arts, and Cultural Excursions to keep the children engaged and safe away from the streets during the dangerous hours of 3pm to 5pm when hard working parents are not home and children fall prey to gangs, drugs and violence.
  • Our vast charter encompasses enrichment programs like chess, health, art, technology, sports, and travel for children k-12.

What We Need

In collaboration with the City University of New York we will be expanding our reach to provide enriched programs that are deeply needed in our community.

This is our break down.

PROJECT HAVEN MARTIAL ARTS PROGRAM - $41,325

Fifty-five students will get active while learning to find focus and stillness as they experience the discipline and confidence of martial arts. We provide everything they need including uniforms, sparring gear, mouth guards, and all the belts they can earn!

PROJECT HAVEN MULTICULTURAL EXCURSION - $23,810

Fifteen students will challenge their perspectives with six days of travel and discovery on a cultural excursion.

PROJECT HAVEN CAMPING PROGRAM - $4,496

Thirteen students will replace the streetlights with stars and embark upon a teamwork adventure for seven days.

The Impact

  • We at Project Haven believe that we can provide the much-needed opportunities for NYC children of today to become leaders of tomorrow.
  • Young people who participate in outdoor adventures benefit in countless ways as they step into new environments. Experiences with Project Haven will provide youth with the opportunity to develop:

    Leadership and life skills

    Self-confidence, self discipline and self-respect

    Trust

A sense of responsibility for self, others, the community, and the environment

    Critical thinking skills

    Teamwork experience

    Decision-making skills                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Respect for all

Risks & Challenges

The Community served by Project Haven is primarily the Children in the Bronx area who’s parents cannot afford the ever increasing costs of after school provision. Many of the parents work in minimum wage positions and are left with little choice but to leave their children at home or out on the streets until they return from work. These children are then subjected to inappropriate actions including crime, promiscuity, and other drug and alcohol related issues.

The program aims to serve all school age children in need; however it is recognized that targeting middle schoolers before they have had chance to become embedded in the negative and harmful effects that being on the streets can cause, will provide sustainable benefits to not only the children’s wellbeing, emotional and physical development but also to the community in which they live.

Other Ways You Can Help

Some people just can't contribute, but that doesn't mean they can't help:

  • Please get the word out and make some noise about our efforts through social media and word of mouth... The next child we serve may be one you know and love...
  • You can use the Indiegogo share tools as well!

Thank you for your support!!!
