Short Summary
Hello, My name is Anthony Gelsomino and I have been the Artistic Director of Lucky Devil Theater Company since its inception in 1998. I have been making plays and taking chances with LDTC for the past 20 years with over 10 productions. With a penchant for LGBTQ themes and a soft spot for comedy, LDTC has survived to reinvent itself once again with Provincetown Murder Mystery.
Having fallen in love with Provincetown, MA and eventually purchasing a home there, I wanted to write the ultimate love song to Ptown. With that, Provincetown Murder Mystery was born. A fast paced, joke a minute farce that had all the elements of an LDTC production: drama, drinks, drag queens and decapitation. Who could ask for anything more?
Once written but twice shy, I brought a reading of PMM to the NY stage to see if people, well, thought it was remotely funny. And they did. They chuckled and guffawed with delight. So, with the help of the suprisingly adept Antony Raymond, we took this reading to Provincetown, MA for one night only. We even cast local favorite Liza Lott as Lozenge, the drag queen with a dream of gold. The cast was as follows:
Narrator: Eric Doviak, Danthony: Gene Dante, Bleache: Devin Melillo, Lozenge: Liza Lott, Dimitar: Ben Dawson WATCH IT HERE: https://www.facebook.com/anthony.gelsomino/vide...
We filled the Crown & Anchor with eager locals and some drunk tourists, who responded with resounding laughter to the show. We then knew we had to bring it back, off book and on the mark.
One weekend in Tennessee, I asked Lucky Devil Theater Co’s other founding member Von Parish, to do the math on bringing this fully realized show to the stage. She did, and armed with a mimosa, she came up with a budget of $30k. Guess we need to raise some dough.
What We Need & What You Get
Since we are a NY based company, we need to rehearse this show in NYC and bring it to Ptown. That means money. It also means we are going to try and do something people never do: PAY THE ACTORS! So the money we raise will go the following places:
Rehearsal space in a not very glamorous NYC rehearsal space for a week rehearsal period.
Costumes & props. We will admit, one prop is a flying dildo.
Something we will call a set.
Transportation for the actors & crew to/from Ptown.
Housing in Ptown.
A stipend so that crew/actors can eat food each day.
Promotional materials so people know what we are doing.
Cargo charges to get Liza Lott & Gene Dante from MA to NYC for rehearsal.
Technical assistance that helps make theater magic.
We actually need more than the $10,000 we are asking for here. Remember Von’s $30,000 budget? Well, I wanted to be realistic and put a goal that seemed reasonable and didn’t make us look like losers if we didn’t hit it.
I’d like to tell you that you are saving a hungry child from diphtheria or a rescue dog from Cujo-ism..but you are not. Instead you will help us bring something much more needed in the world today: GAY THEATER. LDTC is not making a profit from this production; we will be lucky if we remotely break even. So feel good in knowing every penny we raise is going into making the funniest, most satisfying play about a ghost dildo you’ve ever seen.
So please, if you find any solace in a great night out with irreverent theater, give us a chance to make the children’s laughter remind us how it used to be.
