Namaste,
My name is Apsara Karki and I am Program Director at Punarbal Plus in
Kathmandu, Nepal. I come to you today seeking funds to continue our care
for HIV-infected children in these trying times for our country.
Punarbal
Plus, established in February 2007, is a non-government, non partisan
and non-profit organization working in the field of HIV & AIDS. It
is registered in Kathmandu CDO office and is affiliated to Social
Welfare Council. It has attained a membership in NANGAN, a national
network of organizations working in HIV to make an effort in bringing
out the concerned issues successfully and fruitfully.
Punarbal Plus’s mission is
to serve children infected or affected by HIV and orphans who are deprived of education due to their HIV status and poverty.
We work in three main areas of need associated with HIV-infected
children: child abuse, children’s rights, and education. To support this
work Punarbal Plus operates two projects:
-
Punarbal Shikshya Sadan,
which started in 2007, is the first educational institution in Nepal to
educate children who are infected or affected by HIV/AIDS and to
children who do not have the opportunity to attend school due to
poverty.
-
Punarbal Home is a care and support center for
infected and affected children, which started in November 2009. After
opening the Punarbal School, Punarbal Plus realized the necessity of a
care and support center for orphaned children who did not have the
opportunity to study in traditional schools due to discrimination
against the disease.
Currently, we are seeking
funds to continue our current work and begin new projects that include a
children’s transit home. Punarbal Plus operates on only $30,000 USD a year, therefore every donation goes a long way in supporting our children. We hope you can make whatever contribution possible to our life-changing cause.
