A wee bit of background
Pure Roasters coffee was founded by 2 people who were passionate about ethical coffee and were disappointed with the current offering in Scotland. We didn't want to sacrifice flavour for ethics.
- Don and Robert have a combined 17 years experience in running businesses and started Pure Roasters after closing their coffee shop in Dumbarton. The company has been incorporated for 3 years and was started with zero investment.
- Putting a coffee bar on the road adds another string to our bow. With energy costs rising and events happening more frequently, we've seen an opportunity to add a rolling advert for the coffee we put our heart and soul into.
- Helping us get the coffee trailer kitted out will mean we can start booking events now before the year is out. This means we can generate much needed cashflow and could even be a test run for scaling our idea to multiple bars which would in turn create jobs in Glasgow.
We don't want to re-invent the wheel. Just get our coffee in the hands of new customers.
What We Need & What You Get
the fun part for our contributors:
- We need a minimum of £5k to get on the road. We've already spent £2k of our own earnings so far on the build. The trailer needs; new tyres, upgraded trailer hitch, ventilation, paint, decals, coffee making equipment, generator and signage.
- The Perks! Every investment counts and we will match your money with goods and services as below:
£10 - A 250g bag of coffee in beans or ground and a hand-written thank you note
£25 - A kilo of coffee in beans or ground with a hand-written thank you note
£30 - A Bodum travel press, a 250g bag of ground coffee and a hand-written thank you note
£50 - A mega treat gift box containing; steel cafetiere, 2 bags of coffee, a branded bamboo keep cup, sweets and stickers.
£100 - 12 months of Pure Roasters coffee club (includes free gift) on a 250g bag of coffee per month subscription
£250 - 12 months of Pure Roasters coffee club (includes free gift) on a 1 Kg bag of coffee per month subscription
£500 - We will attend your event and supply unlimited drinks for up to 8 hours*
- What if we don't reach the goal? In the event that we don't reach the target within 30 days we will use any funds generated towards the build and continue to work on the coffee bar at a slower pace. Perks will be honoured no matter what the outcome of the fundraising is after 30 days.
*event must be in Scotland, drinks will be served as quickly as possible though we may be restricted by how quickly our machine will operate. Groups under 100 will also receive a cake each and soft drinks.
The Impact
We're not changing the world by putting a coffee trailer on the road however we are bringing a higher quality of coffee to the events we attend. We'll be taking coffee straight from the oven to supply these events, no more instant coffee from polystyrene cups.
- We use reduced waste methods to supply coffee and reduce food miles by roasting in-house.
- We've already proven popular at events for the last 3 years, adding coffee by the cup will only strengthen our offering.
- For us as a small team, our margins are being squeezed daily at this point. Between the rising cost of green beans and the energy crisis, we need to find constructive ways to maintain margin and secure our jobs in what has become a challenging environment.
Risks & Challenges
Like any project, we'll have hurdles to overcome. Here's what they are and how we'll deal with them.
- Getting bookings - We already have an active profile with positive reviews from our pre-lock-down coffee bar gigs so can guarantee a source of work
- Legal compliance - We've been in touch with the local EHO and Glasgow chamber of commerce to ensure we meet the right criteria for providing hot drinks safely and will invite inspections once work is complete.
- Learning/Safety Training - We have already completed courses in food hygiene and we will comply with requirements for allergen display as well as COSHH risk assessments. We already have Public, Staff and product liability insurance in place.
Other Ways You Can Help
These are tough times and we don't blame you if you're reading this thinking about how you pay your own bills this winter let alone help a Glaswegian coffee company. That's totally understandable and we get it. Please don't stretch yourself financially for our sake. Here's some non financial ways you can help us out if you feel so inclined:
- Share this campaign with anyone who may be interested.
- If you've tried our coffee leave us an honest review. We love to hear all feedback.
- Come and say hello if you see us at an event
And that's all there is to it. Thanks for reading.
