What IS Purple, Anyway?

Purple™ is a Hyper-Elastic™ polymer, which is super stretchy and super strong. That means it’s durable and your mattress won’t develop a body impression. It is also temperature neutral, hypoallergenic, responsive, and comfortable!

How Does Purple Work?

Purple™ is designed to give in under pressure-sensitive areas, like your hips and shoulders, and remain firm under the broader areas that need support like your back and legs - no matter where you are on the mattress. What is the Purple™ Bed?

The Purple™ Bed is soft where you want it and firm where you need it, providing you with optimal body alignment and comfort. Mattresses may take 2-3 weeks to ship after your order while we get everything finalized.

What is the Purple™ Top?

The Purple™ Top improves your existing mattress. But let’s get reasonable, if you have a quality mattress that is just too firm, this is a good option! But if you have a soft pillow top mattress or if your mattress has a big sag in it, the Purple™ Top won’t fix the problem! The Purple™ Top improves good-but-firm mattresses -- it is not a band-aid for broken down mattresses. Toppers are scheduled to begin shipping January 2016.

What is the Royal Purple™ Seat Cushion? 

Sit on your butt all day? How Did Purple™ Come About?

1989 found two brothers, engineers Tony and Terry Pearce, fly fishing in the Rockies and talking about partnering to change the world. Tony’s 13 years of experience in advanced aerospace materials, and Terry’s 20 years of experience in manufacturing, design, and project management, led to a partnership creating high-tech carbon fiber sporting goods and wheelchairs.

By 1993, wheelchair users that were testing the Pearce’s wheelchairs let them know that the real need was in better wheelchair cushioning. Pressure sores were a really bad part of their lives. Taking that challenge, the Pearces created Floam™, the world’s lightest-weight cushioning fluid. Soon, Floam™ had five patents and was being used in not only wheelchair cushions, but also by major licensees of the Pearces in critical-care medical beds (Hill-Rom), footwear (Nike), ankle/knee braces (Johnson & Johnson), golf bag straps (Top-Flite), neonatal intensive care (preemie baby) ‘nests’, surgical positioning cushions, surgical tourniquet cushions, ballet cushions, industrial knee pads, and more.

Now known for the world’s most advanced cushioning products, the Pearces set out to create a technology that could revolutionize cushioning at a much lower cost than Floam™. Purple™ began to evolve through a series of discoveries and product developments. The first breakthrough came in the 1990s, when the Pearces invented hyper-elastic polymer. This amazingly soft, strong material could stretch 15 times its resting size, was uber-durable, and never took a body impression. The key discovery came when hyper-elastic polymer was molded in a shape that could “release” under pressure hot spots, redistributing the pressure to other areas. The same feature turned out to give amazing back support in mattresses. As time went on, the predecessor-products of Purple™ came to be licensed to makers of critical care medical beds (Stryker Medical); consumer mattresses in Europe (Swan by Ekornes), Japan (Francebed), and Australia (Sleepmaker); backpack straps (Jansport); shoe insoles (Dr. Scholl’s Massaging Gel and Sof-Sole); pillows (Sleep Innovations); soft-catch toy balls (Nickelodeon); seat cushions (WonderGel); wheelchair cushions (EquaPressure); and many other advanced cushioning products. In all, the Pearces have over 30 cushioning patents, and are known the world over as the premier source for superior cushioning technology.

Three years ago, the Pearces set out to combine all their knowledge of cushioning into the world’s best mattress. Hyper-elastomeric polymer had never been able to be molded into pieces as large as king-size mattresses. Even with only partial surface coverage, the mattresses made in Australia and Europe were too expensive to have hope of millions of people getting more comfortable. To make great mattresses, the whole surface needed to be hyper-elastic polymer, and the mattresses needed to be produced at high rates with low labor input. A patent-pending machine called Mattress Max was created, taking over two years and several million dollars. Now, Purple™ for mattresses is made in the USA by Mattress Max in single pieces large enough to fully cover a king-size mattress, and at production rates/costs that will help millions of people change their lives. Better than any $4000 mattress for about $1000 – that was the goal, and Purple™ achieved it.

Why Purple™? Well, why not? It is an awesome color, and it signifies treating everyone like royalty. The Pearces have spent most of their high-tech careers advancing the world of cushioning. With Purple™, they know they have put all they’ve learned into the world’s greatest bed, and they’ve figured out how to do it so everyone can afford it.

Where Are We in the Launch Effort?

After a successful funding on Kickstarter, we're already manufacturing and shipping product and are continually striving to perfect our operations. We're already looking to expand our space and we're adding to Team Purple regularly! Right now we're revving up to launch a major marketing campaign that will keep the momentum going that we've already gained from Kickstarter. Your contributions will help keep things running smoothly as we get sea legs.

We have successfully launched Purple and are in full production of mattresses and cushions, so you don't need to worry about whether or not you're going to get your product. Seat cushions will ship out right away, and the mattresses will ship within a few business days of your order. Toppers are scheduled to begin shipping in January of 2016.

The challenge of shipping is solved, we've partnered with UPS to ship the cushions, the mattress, and the topper directly to you. 

This is actually the very same foam that we use in the Purple™ Bed under the Purple. It's fantastic high quality, and relatively comfortable foam, but look at what a difference the Purple makes!
