Who We Are
Purple Crayon Productions was founded in 2016 by a group of then-high school students in the DC area working on a production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. This company has been a labor of love, and we've since produced two other shows, including one original work in the DC Fringe Festival!
We're excited to get started on our fourth production this summer, conceived and directed by Catherine Horowitz and Sophie Falvey, two of our founding members. This is also the first play we've produced to be cast entirely by audition, and we're proud of the outstanding group of actors we've found!
Production Costs
We're raising money here to finance our production costs, the breakdown of which is below:
- Theatre rental
- Renting our space will cost $500 per day, over four days. This, in addition to other service charges required by the theatre, totals over $2000.
- Set pieces
- We're hoping to include a variety of natural elements in our set for this production, including a layer of real dirt across the stage!
- Chairs, tables, lamps, and a platform! We're looking to use free, recycled elements in our set, but we'll still need to buy wood and a couple of the pieces.
- Costumes
- We have eight actors playing about 28 characters all together; that means 28 different costumes!
- Props
- We'll be looking for period weapons, as well as flashlights, lanterns, and cookware!
- Marketing and programs
- Our wonderful artist, Raina Greifer, is currently working on an original design for our production posters, cards, and programs. As part of our Marketing campaign, we'll be printing and distributing these around the DC area!
How to Help
Donating any amount to this campaign helps greatly! Due to the demands of this production, we're looking at increased costs to our previous shows-- but we believe we can do it with your help!
