Today, about 12% of couples worldwide cannot conceive naturally and have to turn to assisted reproduction procedures. But sadly, only about 24% of these procedures are successful. This is heartbreaking for couples wishing to start a family.
We believe our newly invented device QSperm(TM) will change this by revolutionizing Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs). In Vitro Fertilization and other ARTs have been around for 35 years but the crucial step of sperm selection has never been perfected. QSperm does this by selecting the most fertile sperm, thereby increasing the chance of a pregnancy with a positive outcome.
QSperm is a microfluidic device that we patented in 2013. It was invented by a team of scientists and engineers from the Sinton Lab at the University of Toronto. Two of us from that team are now commercializing this device in 2014. Lise Eamer is an engineer and Dr. Marion Vollmer is a scientist. Together we set up IQ Biomedical to design and manufacture medical devices, primary among which is QSperm.
IQ Biomedical has been selected as one of 10 finalists in the OneStart Americas competition to be held in San Francisco, California on the 22nd of May, 2014. The prize for winning this competition is $150,000 and a years worth of lab space in San Francisco.
We would like to kick the commercialization of QSperm into high gear by attending this event, but we need your help. We need to raise $5000 in a hurry to pay for this trip. We will spend the funds as follows:
$2250 - Flights to San Francisco for Lise and Marion.
$1000 - Hotel and Lodging for Lise and Marion while in San Francisco.
$750 - Marketing materials for QSperm.
$1000 - Set up IQ Biomedical.
What about sperm perks? Seriously? No! Instead, one of our advisors (who used to live in San Fran) has helped us come up with a bunch of funky, sporty and super-cool perks that we will purchase in San Francisco and send to you.
Hope you can help us out. For more information see the following:
