I AM PROVIDENCE
Monster Makeup Productions is at it again! And this year we are shooting our favorite project yet - Queen of the Rats. Our third feature film, Queen of the Rats may just be the most Providence movie OF ALL TIME. A gorey, gooey blend of Providence's three historical tenets - the art warehouse scene of early 2000s, the mafiaâs clutch on the city, and cosmic horror - QotR will be abrasive, hilarious, and unlike anything youâve ever seen.
Like our previous projects, Death Drop Gorgeous and Saint Drogo, we promise you practical effects and authentic queer representation. At the heart of the story is a parable about protecting community, celebrating art, and rejecting the insidious greed of gentrification.
"I thought he said you were a made man now"
We are raising funds to ensure the gore youâve come to expect and crave from a Monster Makeup Production. The majority of donations will be going right into the mouth of our COSMIC CREATURE standing 10 feet tall including: disgusting PRACTICAL FX, limbs, tentacles and buckets and buckets of BLOOD. The additional money raised will go to props, costuming, rental costs, and food and drink for cast and crew - ya know, keep the lights on stuff.
If youâve followed our journey, you know that we can stretch a dollar. One of our most common reviews in the industry is "you made THIS with THAT??" Both Death Drop Gorgeous and Saint Drogo were made on practically the same budget. We are hoping to use crowdsource funding in combination with sales from self-distributing Saint Drogo later this year to build a bigger budget and an unforgettable project.
Community Camaraderie
We believe in supporting micro-budget artists and filmmakers that do not always have the means or privileges to accomplish projects such as this. We won't let our limited budget hinder us from seeing our vision to fruition. This is aligned with the spirit of the art warehouse scene we are depicting in Queen of the Rats - a time when the city was a literal haven for artists and ruled by misfits and miscreants. This combination of grit and talent inspired camaraderie and created community. Queen of the Rats celebrates Providenceâs past, while reminding us all of the future these punks dreamt of- in our city and beyond.
We hope you can help us create Queen of the Rats as we continue our tradition of DIY, microbudget filmmaking. Any amount assists us in completing this project. And please, help spread the word and share our campaign!
