Short Summary
Imagine that you have
your car parked outdoors and it's a rainy day, so you take your umbrella out
and go from point A (your house for example) to point B (your car) or vice
versa. So after you've walked to your car you face the apparently simple task
of getting inside the car, but if you are trying to avoid getting wet and keep water away from your car's interior it's not as easy as it sounds. You have to close the umbrella just the right way, quickly enough so
that you don't slam it with the door (not to mention your hand or foot). Even
if you avoid all these you still have a very wet umbrella inside your car,
which will soak your seats, clothes or papers in your door holder.
It is also a problem
while trying to get out of the car in a rainy day, as you try to open your
umbrella in a hurry, through the tiny opening you left as to not let any water
inside the car and then rapidly shut it closed.
The Solution
What we offer is an easy do it yourself (DIY) installation product that solves this problem.
We are able to incorporate a
tent-like umbrella inside the doorframe of your car. So when you open the
door a special fabric (attached from one end to the frame and from the other to
the inside of the door) unrolls itself from the topside of the doorframe
creating a rain shield. This allows the driver or passenger to get in their
seats without hassling about rainwater. You can calmly sit or stand beneath the
rain guard, set your belongings inside, shake the excess water off the umbrella
and close it, get in your seat and finally close the door. The Rain Smart will
store itself inside the car's doorframe seamlessly.

The Rain Smart will
follow the shape of the doorframe (pilot and copilot) so that the water
collected slides towards the front of the door and on to the ground. It
consists of a self-winding cylinder (using various spring rollers) that will roll and
unroll the fabric as the door opens and closes. We will use a proprietary fabric that is lightweight, thin, flexible, waterproof, non-absorbent, resistant against the
elements, resistant to corrosive chemicals, resistant to abrasion, has a low
friction coefficient and has an ability to conduct heat. The device would be attached
to the car's frame and door by replacing the factory rubber seal (OEM).

Risks & Challenges
The primary challenge is to design our mechanism in a way that it is as compact as possible and well functioning regardless of spacial constraints. Another issue is to be able to manufacture accessories that fit cars individually, to create a universal fitment or at least reduce options to a few specific sizes.
